Hi all

Many thanks for all the nice comments and feedback. Unfortunately, I've been violently ill with S & D for the last few days and according to the doctor, won't be right for another few days, so I can't really work on any patches right now. Worst case scenario is that it will be the first week of January that the first patch will be put out, as I'll also be away for 3 weeks.

I'm sorry if the smoke and sounds have had a detrimental effect on your enjoyment of the pack. I don't expect everyone to like my smoke. I was slightly amazed by the image above with the leading smoke at 40mph and I do agree, it looks ridiculous. I've never seen the effect to such extremes before, may I ask, out of curiosity, what route and weather settings were used?

You can blame me for the loud running sounds, when Matt sent me the sounds they were the same volume as the sounds on the GCR 8F models. However, having spent a day learning on a very similar black 5, I can assure you that from the cab, it's VERY noisy indeed, so I increased the volume massively. Maybe I've overdone it, what sounds good on my PC with headphones may be vastly different to everyone else's setup. Matt is already working on a patch for the sounds, which may fix the machine gun effect from the head out view, but I still think this amongst the very best of his works and still cannot put into words how grateful I am for them.

As some may have noticed, there isn't a tutorial scenario that I repeatedly describe I the manual. I wrote it back in August when I thought I'd include one, but my attempts to make any scenarios have not gone well at all, and I've just not had time to make any in the last few months. An enormous thank you to Jim, who basically looked after and finalised the project over the last few weeks when I wasn't able to, without his help and support, the pack may have missed a release this year.

Hopefully everybody will continue to enjoy the pack.
Chris

The smoke picture doesn't surprise me actually, similar results can be duplicated with other steamers, S&C and Woodhead both seemingly suffer from force 9 gale syndrome and end up blowing the smoke in gravity defying directions, probably has something to do with how high up the routes are located in real life and DEM data and the simulator doesn't realistically simulate wind conditions at said height, wouldn't be surprising if its the case either since I don't think anyone has really touched on it at all throughout the years and nothing really has been overly touched to how smoke interacts with weather either.

How easily "particles" like smoke or steam get blown by the wind in RW is down to two factors:-

1) The wind speed defined in the weather blueprint
2) A particle property defined in the "particle" blueprint. Can't recall if it is the fResistanceFactor or the fParticleMass value, but one of these significantly effects how easily smoke is blown by the wind.

It's one of those areas where different developers will normalise on different settings, so things can be fine in some combinations but drastically wrong in others.

Just having a few difficulties trying to get this loco out of the station,it won't budge. Whats the name of the included Tutorial Senario on the Great Western Mainline route (Oxford to Paddington) so that I can find it and learn from scratch.

Hi Antony,

As can be seen from the statement (taken from ChrisBarnes post above) there is no Scenario.
As some may have noticed, there isn't a tutorial scenario that I repeatedly describe I the manual. I wrote it back in August when I thought I'd include one, but my attempts to make any scenarios have not gone well at all, and I've just not had time to make any in the last few months. There is however a very good Manual on how to drive "Leander", its in the 'UKTS Freeware Packs' folder in the Railworks 'Manuals' folder. I suspect that your problem of unable to start may be down to you not "Blowing off the brakes" using the "J" key.

Absolutely, I think so too. I had some 'starting' difficulties there too

Hi, Thanks all. I did not notice the the bit about there being no scenario. That explans why I couldn't fine the mouse in the molehill with all the scenarios that I have for this route. Also I'll give the J key a go and Im sure I will get it moving now.

Antony.

edit : Yes it was not using the J Key to blow off the small injectors. All OK now, up and running.

Keep playing with this one, it's so much more engaging. I would love this to be rolled out to all steam locos. Though i most want it on a bulleid. Trying to get away on a slope with a heavy train in the wet would be a great challenge! :D

I love the wheelslip on this loco... it's the first steam loco where it feels real... took it over the Settle-Carlisle in the damp and it was incredible fun :D

Excellent to read this! When I discovered Chris' excellent slipping visual effects I just had to implement the sounds for it!! Never done it before and it took many hours of work to get it to work! I now know how to do it on future loco's that have wheelslip implemented properly.

I haven't seen it mentioned by anyone until now. What do you all think of the sound update?

Hi Matt,

One word, "Fantastic", thanks very much for sharing with us, much appreciated.

The "wheel slip" on the Jubilee with 'visuals' and 'sound' is the "Dogs doo-dah's", a brilliant work combination of two very fine artists in their field. I spent most of yesterday afternoon driving the Jubilee on your wonderful "Great Central Route", just couldn't resist invoking some wheelslip along the way after I found out about it.
