The smoke colour changes in the cab forward as will when you put more oil onto the fire.

Does the Big Boy and Challenger come in 2 separate packs or as one pack ?

My guess is that it will be two separate packs, and hoping that it will be discounted for those of us who already own the previous steam versions of them

Now on Steam at 50% off which might persuade me to buy it again - $9.99 with 4 Sherman Hill scenarios or $15.99 bundled with the Challenger.

I' have the previous versions of both so I'd be interested to hear told how much of an upgrade these are.

Well after having a good run around in both the Big boy and Challenger i can firmly say that its up to RSC's usual standards!

Rushed and not tested properly!

Can anyone else who has purchased the Bigboy V2 addon check to see if the audio files are such a mess of old and redundant folders and references to files that do not exist, with their install please.
And yes i have verified and cleared the cache before checking again.
The main problem i am getting is the sound skiping and some very odd problems at the start of each scenario of screeching sounds which i take is supposed to be valves oppening and air releasing ect.
And the sound or lack of it when the loco is under coasting past the camara a 566Ton loco appers to make almost no noise what so ever!
Cheers Mick.

Have looked into my BigboyPack01 Audio folder and it to has a number of folders in it with other folders inside them, some of which are empty. I dont think they are redundant old folders though, perhaps they are for future ongoing developments ? I base this on the fact that my other original Bigboy is still entact and resides in the unmentionable folder. I may be wrong though as well.

I also hope that there will be future improvements:

- sounds are inferior to the old Big Boy and seem to be made of default clanks and chuffs.
- cylinder cocks cannot be operated - no steam leaving the cylinders to the left and right sides like on the preview pictures.
- several cab elements like pumps and injectors are not animated.
- the manual does not contain a cab layout.

Right now I feel that I have bought 5 steam scenarios for Sherman hill at 6,99€

Big Boy sounds like a Black 5. It shouldn't go chuff chuff chuff but chuffchuff chuffchuff chuffchuff. Hopefully the empty chuff folders are for proper Big Boy chuff sounds in a future update.

LOL... Well in that case I'm glad I'm sticking with my original BB and Challenger packs. Certainly not going to waste any money on these. Thanks for the mini-reviews.

I was just coming here to say i cannot believe how bad the audio is... stuttering old dated chuffs and clanks that sound terrible, and not what we have become used to with recently released steam loco packs

I only bought them because they were on offer... kinda feel like i hadn't bothered now... audio has become a major part of my enjoyment, and i cannot stand that old black 5 audio... so to hear it attached to such a monster of a loco sounds stupid, and i'll probably never play them again :(
Why couldn't the steam loco sit down? - Because he had a tender behind.

Yeah, i could almost agree, atleast on Challenger's case. As it only was 7€, i though that why not...and now, WHY at all... :(

Sounds are pretty non-extinct on that thing, only if you push the regulator over 50%, it starts to keep proper sound, but even that's a rarity, untill pulling really heavy load.
And then steam (particle) effects...or rather that there's ain't much of those, only that i was able to see, came from chimney. Regulator open, there was nice looking exhaust that changed color if stoker was on and sometime afterwards as well. Whitout regulator...hmm. I assume that emergenct valve was inside the chimney as well the whistle (horn). Whistles steam effect was tied to space bar and it ended even tho that the sound continued.

Oh, and no working cylinder cocks either, well, you know what i mean, no steam effects on them. Not sure if the injector even has a visible effect as it's more like steam turbine run pump.

Shame on RSC, altho model looks very nice and shiny, sounds are weak and those UP carriages, well, looks nice but no passenger view, not even the cheap method and the rake could use a rear observation saloon (or whatever its really called). Thankfully i have the lovely B1, its lovely round boiler (i almost hate those belpeire monsters...) and whistle...it doesn't sound like british, but since it probably recorded from real living machine, i have belive it... :D

Oh this does not sound good at all. Can anybody confirm if at least the lights are working OK? On my existing Challenger the lights are OK but on my Big Boy they do not really (visibly) switch on. Are the scenarios interesting enough? I really like the idea to run these locos over Sherman Hill, like the real things used to do.
Thanks

Apart from the sounds, by the way which are better on the V2 Challenger they are both good models graphically and are a pleasure to drive. There are some empty sound folders in the Big Boys folder which could be for the proper sounds which RSC could be working on as a future update. Perhaps the sounds are like this so they could of got it out for the Steam 50% off sale. We shall just have to wait and see.
