Reintsall

Hi

I decided to do a total reinstall of Rw2012, with the free update of 2013. I backed up all of my pay ware and modified files but, silly me, thought the main programme would be an easy, if long, download. It is not. Steam only gives me the 2013 update and does not recognise I have a full copy of Ts2012.

Has anybody done this? If so can you clue me into what I need to do to get the main 2012 engine back.

Cheers

Short answer - you can't do what you want to do.

Longer answer, Steam updates the program and RSC updated TS2012 to TS2013 free of charge to all users. Since you chose to reinstall, Steam has done what you asked and provided the latest and greatest version. Unless you have an offline image of TS2012 you can't go back to that core engine.

But.....

so why go for 2012 when you want to end up with 2013?

Thanks.

I was under the, now false impression, that Steam and the whole cloud concept was for this type of reason. I did not have to have the media, DVD, as I could always rely on the cloud to reinstall what I paid for. Since I paid for TS2012 and had to upgrade whether I wanted to or not I feel slightly conned.

Guess I have learned the hard way.

What are you talking about? - I think there's some confusion amongst the replies over what appears to be your own confusion about what you actually own

Steam is not offering you ONLY the TS2013 update files... it is offering you the COMPLETE & FULL TS2013 game plus all content you received with your TS2012 purchase....

Just say yes, and let Steam do it's thing... You will end up with a complete fresh install of TS2013, with all routes and stock you had in TS2012, plus any other add-on's you have purchased

Found the answer.

Validate and all will be restored. Hopefully.

More confusion....

If you have the option to validate you must have the files there...are you talking about restoring content from places other than Steam?..reskins, content from 3rd parties such as Digital Traction? Whichever, anything that worked under TS2012 will work under TS2013 (there may be the need to apply patches to a very small number of items) so as long as you have backups of the non-Steam stuff you're sorted.

That's quite a false impression; Steam can be taken off-line, you can set it NOT to keep content updated, you can deny it access to the internet via a firewall rule, you can keep a backup copy of the game.....
