Re: Great Central Railway Version 2 - Release Thread

I'm having problems with the loco pack. I have neither the Hall nor V2 packs so I can't play the scenarios, as presented. I assumed that the answer would be the usual one of swapping the missing assets for their equivalents in the S&C Specials pack or, in the case of the Hall, the Falmouth Branch. I can swap the V2 engine and tender and the Hall engine with RW_Tools but I can't swap the Hall's tender. I get a message saying I can't swap a wagon for a locomotive, which I haven't seen before. Has a status flag been accidentally changed somewhere?

Re: Great Central Railway Version 2 - Release Thread

Further to my earlier post, I eventually got the scenario to work by using RW_Tools to swap the V2, the Hall engine and to delete the GCR Hall tender. I then went into the editor and added a Hall tender. That worked fine but the Hall and V2 had no numbers and the Hall had blank nameplates. I then exchanged the swapped Hall for a new one in the Editor (also discovering that RW_Tools hadn't flagged up the SCSteam assets in the process) and that was fine. The V2 has no driving directions so it should have been just as easy to replace that in the Editor but, when I did, the scenario complained of losing the Crane Road marker. Pressing Esc allowed the scenario to run but it then cannot "see" the coupling of the Black 5 and the scenario fails.

I must be doing something wrong but I haven't a clue what. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I got around the problem of losing the marker. I forgot that there's an option in RW_Tools to retain the number when swapping vehicles. I untagged that and the replacement locos arrived with their numbers and nameplates all present and correct. I still don't understand why swapping a loco in the Editor would cause the marker to disappear to the dispatcher, though. I even tried moving the train that the Black 5 couples to onto a different track but then it's marker disappeared. Weird!

The cannot swap a loco for a wagon thing, seems to be an annoying bug in RW-Tools.... i've had it a few times, i find closing the scenario editor and opening again fixes it

The marker disappearance thing is easily fixed using a combination of RW-Tools and the in game editor...

First off, when swapping out the loco's in RW-Tools, make sure you change the loco number too, so you don't get the blank number/name badge situation - For the V2 swap the number from BR60800 to 4771... If you have the Falmouth Branch pack, use that Hall and number it TN####j4953 (This gives you Pitchford Hall in BR Green, which seems to be near enough what you get in the GCR Loco pack anyway)

After loading the scenario, Note the marker it says is missing in the error message that appears... (There will be one broken marker in the first scenario, and two in the third scenario).... Press edit to enter the Editor... Bring up the timetable for the loco's, select the player consist, look on the timetable for the marker mentioned (such as Paddington 2), open it and you'll see a consist list that includes the original number of the loco you changed... edit the loco number to your new number... eg: for the V2, changed it from BR60800 to 4771 - Save then exit, and the scenario is fixed :)

Thanks for those notes. I've never seen the bug before but I did wonder whether it was RW_Tools rather than the scenario or game when I tried editing the second of the scenarios and both tenders gave the error. It's not a major issue, once you get your head around it. Thanks also for the suggestion with the Hall. I've been substituting the Halls from the SC Specials pack, where the V2 is coming from, to minimise the assets being loaded but I'll definitely give this a whirl and make a note of the settings for the Falmouth version.

In other news: The route will be re-released soon as a UKTS Freeware Pack Route. It'll be moved on to version 3 as it will become a quick drive route. Any fixes or improvements you'd like to see? Please feel free to mention them below.

Kind Regards

Matt, I've done a scenario for the route using the O4 and wanted to add water to the tender at the northern end of Platform 2 as the first action by the player. The crane and the location on the 2D map don't coincide by quite a distance and I couldn't get the tender topped up at either spot.

The scenario has the loco pulling a demonstration freight train slowly as far as Rothley, uncoupling in Platform 1 and going back to Swithland Sidings before crossing back to the Up line to return to its train. The train then runs non-stop to Loughborough at line speed. Several Down signals between Rothley and Swithland Sidings never clear and need to be tabbed past, although others either side do.

I also found that the AI won't accept any train that isn't set as passenger. I had to make the freight a stopping passenger for it to work. If you change nothing except the train classification the timings vanish and are replaced by red lines. Change back and they reappear. Is that a track-rule problem?

I'd quite like to see a Portal placed nearer Leicester North. There isn't one beyond Rothley.

I mentioned before.... I'm not convinced the signals are working properly...

After trying a dozen times or more, it appears to be impossible to 'complete' the demo scenario with a green tick... which i think is down to multiple SPAD's (It's the only thing listed in the mission debrief screen that offers any insight into why i failed the mission)

I've completed the scenario several times, but always fail it... most times with about 6 or 7 SPAD's - and i have no idea where i am getting these - Even when i try and 'tab key' every signal i pass (for permission) i seem to be missing a bunch of them somewhere, but i cannot figure out where, as i'm getting permission to pass the obvious ones.

I also have one other major issue not related to the signal issue...

Whether in the demo scenario, or a free roam, or even the editor... when i reach the bridge at Rothley station... my entire game just hangs for about 3 seconds.. as if the game has crashed, everything is just frozen... then when it unfreezes an ambient audio begins to play quite loudly that sounds like a very reverb heavy motorway sound effect or something... Out of over 50 routes i have installed this GCRv2 route is the only one this has ever happened on (it doesn't happen on GCRv1)

Is anyone else getting this?

I seem to be short of some assets that aren't listed as required:

DT 20T brake van
5-plank grey
7-plank cable
Derelict loco

I can swap out the wagons but I can't find the derelict loco in the UKTS file list.

All that stock is in the scenario pack, it should have installed along with the scenarios

Well... I've no idea why, but on the 4th attempt at running it, Duty 3 decided to work (no SBHH)...

Duty 3 - Passed with a tick... with 10 SPAD's :o

I think the pathing for the file installation may be wrong.

For example, the DT 20 T brake vans should install into Assets\DT\Addon\Railvehicles\Freight\dt_br_20t_brake, but the scenarios are looking for them in Assets\DT\Railvehicles\Freight\dt_br_20t_brake
