For me, this seems to hit certain locos. The default HST has this problem; the Oovee 57 doesn't, for example.

Having just driven the Class 57 Advenza scenario to Didcot can confirm this loco is ok – there were no sound glitches or stutters at all on this run. HST and 86 are definitely affected.

There is obviously a problem which needs resolving here but if this issue is rolling stock specific then this might explain why some have noticed the problem disappear following installation of AP sound packs? Following my clean install of TS2013 I have not yet re-installed any of my AP sound packs but will do so this next week.

I have received a reply from RSC support as follows:

'Thank you for contacting the Railsimulator.com customer support, your enquiry has been logged with a member of our dedicated customer support team. There is an issue with the Asus Xonar D2X Sound, Card Turn off "DS3D GX 2.0" in the Xonar DX Audio Centre software. I realise that this does not account for the problems when using your onboard chip. We are looking into sound problems and if any update is needed it will be distributed via Steam as soon as possible.'

I have tried it with both GX on and off but makes no difference.

Yes i can confirm this because i had the AP class66 sound that i hadn't yet installed, so i installed it and the problem has gone. Don't know whether this will make it easier to solve the problem, or will make it easier to pass the buck. We shall see.

It's indeed very frustrating that sounddrops occur almost on every route.
I contacted RSC also, after several e-mails they admit there are various problems with sound: stutters, no directional sound with (Creative) sound cards.

It would be great if RSC would have a support page with reported problems and more, what the progress is in solving the problem.
In this way they could be freed from a lot of support e-mails with all the same issues.
We and they deserve this to let RW 2013 be the greatest trainsim on the world.

What you are suggesting is something that is a standard part of most linux distributions or open source software. There is even open source free application for this called bugzilla, so there could be very low cost involved for RSC to implement it. However I am not sure this would be in their best interest... what if you could easily see that the speedo bug in class 77 - a major flaw in this package - has never been fixed although it was reported more than half a year ago? ;)

Definitely...and I am using it for more than half a year ;)

But don't you think there should be an official fix by RSC?

Just for clarity I think these sound stuttering issues must be rolling stock specific. I have now installed Richard Armstrong’s Class 43 MTU Pro sound pack and have just driven the supplied scenario from Paddington as far as Maidenhead without a single sound glitch or drop out. I wonder if Richard has any ideas?

Really hope this problem gets sorted soon because as far as I am concerned it is real let down in TS2013.

After intensive emailing with RSC support, the promise a sound update in the middle of November.
I'm still waiting...
And have severe doubts if they solve the sound drop issue, because in one of the e-mails they stated that I am the only person with this issue!!!!

I think the sound drop-outs are affecting everyone though. I sent an email to support ages ago with regard to this and received a "generic" reply suggesting that I alter the hardware acceleration in the sound card properties. I understand a lot of people have contacted support with this issue, but the support team seem to misunderstand what the problem is.

I use a few AP sound packs too, and the problem is eliminated. This would indicate that the problem can be fixed somehow, wouldn't it?

Let's hope the fix is rolled out soon by RSC.

They will never fix this I am afraid. The logic behind is simple: I doubt their testers had never noticed this before TS2013 was released. I think RSC just concluded that this glitch was acceptable.
