Now there is some news worth waiting for!

Thanks for the update.

I would have to say though that the overall behaviour of the sounds, particularly with regard to positional sounds, does seem much better now than it was several weeks ago. It would seem that something has changed already.

Cheers.

No change here at all, still no positional sounds unless I use the 2012 dll and alchemy, hope this update the previous poster mentions sorts out the sound issues once and for all.

No changes to positional sound here either.

As for an update as advised, well let me just say, I'll believe it when I hear it

I'm guessing this sound update for the middle of november isn't happening.

I have my fingers crossed!

The update is only 30 Mb, so it must be small fixes and not a core update.

So far, testing this update, they solved the sound stutters.....
Just testing more locos and routes to be sure. :)

I still have to disable the hardware acceleration to avoid the awful screeches with my X-fi under XP.

Still getting no 3d positional sound with this latest update so I tried swapping the openal32.dll with the one from my syswow64 folder and it's working good with alchemy again, before this update when using alchemy I'd keep getting random/frequent distorted sound, just ran through a scenario and had no issues so I think I'll just stick with using alchemy instead of openal soft.

On my system the sound stutters have been solved since the update from Dec. 3th!

The 3d experience has been improved, but still not the same quality as in RW 2012.

Had an update to ts2013 tonight on steam, dunno if that sorted out the positional audio problems when using openal soft but I also installed the new 1.15.1 version of Openal soft dll prior to testing the sim after the steam update and I'm happy to report I now have fully working 3d positional sounds.

A little update, well that 1.15.1 release of OpenAL soft sorts the 3d positional sounds but it also causes SBHH errors, just tested some scenarios with the version of the dll that came with ts2013 and the crashes were gone, so either there's an issue with how the sim interacts with the latest version of the openal soft dll or the latest version is a little bit buggy.
