Picked this up a shortwhile ago, not really superbig fan of DMUs but this one is like the odd one out which I've oddly wanted to get since seeing some of the screenshots and also from a trip on one a few years ago up to Newcastle station to take a flight to Trondheim,Norway. Was a 4 car set that day at 6am in the morning, hitting Newcastle at morning rushhour...I never want to experience that again..ever.

Now I've been on some old knackered stagecoach doubledeckers but the 142 that day outdid the rattling and the banging more than any old doubledecker.

So about the pack, lots of variation and liveries, lots of features. Model is high quality and looks the part from what I can see. Cab is also done very nicely and has lots of things to fiddle thing which is always nice and the window opening effects sound in cab and hearing of the engine so that is a good touch to.

Cold start is fun to do and is visually represented by the 142 clearing its throat with a gout of smoke, got DRA to which is good and fully working light clusters allowing for full operation setup rather than just press H and go. Passengers get there porch lights to and there is even in-cab light which is a great deal of help when one has AP's lighting pack installed which makes things truely nighttime.

Sounds are always a big part of a release and the 142 has it all, certainly sounds like what I remember of my trip and heard in the past for these terrible beasties. Horn is slightly crackly at the end of playback for me, could just be my sound system on the fritz but its not to bad.

A very decent and high quality release for a rather quirky and less passenger loved DMU, thank you Waggonz and AP for bring it to fruitation and release.

Just having a bit of a drive...the brakes :o. Deceptively strong down to 20mph, but then takes an age to reach 0 :D

Missed both Parsons Street AND Nailsea and Blackwell!

I've had about an hour on it before I had to go to work. The sounds are ok, it would be nice one day to see an AP pro pack. I don't like the sound of the horn, it sounds nowt like a 142 horn, but to be fair, all AP horn sounds don't quite sound right.

Another thing that puzzled me was the brakes. Put it into step one and the brake needle goes to one. Put it into step two and the brake needle goes to three. Is this correct?

My only grumbles so far.
Thanks waggonz and well done. Been waiting a long time for this one. Off home to give it another go.

Callum.

Hi,

Try re-downloading the extra stock pack, 90% sure its the Northern Spirit skin.

If it still shows as missing send AP an email but if you're desperate: download the extra stock pack for the Settle - Carlisle scenarios which definitely includes it.

What is wrong with the engine sounds exactly? As someone commented it sounds like a knackered 101, did a 101 also have a bus engine fitted?
Listening to the preview video on the site, the pull away sound is spot on, just how I like the 142s. It sounds like a good condition one, maybe we can have a Cardiff patch applied to Canton allocated 142s, complete with constant on/off hissing, dodgy doors, engine cut outs, mis-timed engine revs from the rear coach, knackered gearbox etc :p

How about a Heaton version too......you thunder along then the engine falls off ! Well if you want realism....!

Just loving this set. I've never really been into passenger trains, but this is a real delight! I did have some problems though getting it to move. I followed all the procedures in the manual, but the unit would just sit there. In my first attempt everything seemed to go haywire, and eventually none of the key strokes seemed to get a response at all. I've since found that if I don't use the F4 view and operate the controls with the mouse everything seems ok. I can use the F4 view and keys once everything's rolling, but go back to the normal view when I need to come to a halt. Weird but at least it works! I'm running RW on a laptop, and I'm just wondering if it's the key response timing that's a bit off or something?? :o

Anyway, it's all fine apart from that, and I'd like to congratulate the whole team who have put this set together. I think the dynamic passenger effect is an excellent idea, but overall the whole package is superb. The icing on the cake for me? - the squealing flange sound effects!

The only negative for me is the harshness of the brakes, but at least I'm not overrunning stations! :D

jimmyshand wrote:Top quality release, outstanding work from the team. The Pacer must be one of my least favourite trains in the history of UK railways and to be honest, in real life they always used to make me wince in revulsion whenever I saw one! but this cracking addon has made me have a complete change of heart and I only wish they were still running out of Exeter because I'd pop up and get some mileage on one now just for fun! Another bar-raiser this addon, almost perfect with all bells and whistles attached. It's got all the features we should now be demanding as standard, full startup sequence, masterkey, cab light, instrument lights, sliding windows (that alter the sound too), lots of additional buttons to press just for fun like cab heater, compressor etc, great sounds, high res cab detailing, you can even flip the secondmans seat up and down! Bargain at £9.99 and puts RSC DLC traction to shame.
Yeah and if it was Just Trains you would be getting charged twice that amount.

The first generation DMU's were fitted with bus derived engines, so the Pacers just went the extra step with bus derived bodies.

Hi,

Noticed a few comments about the brakes.

We have used real Class 142 brake timings provided by a driver which had the brake timings at a number of speeds and steps.

I won't quote him directly but during testing he said they were pretty much spot on.

Cheers,

Chris.

That's not a proper bus, it was a Leyland National ;)

Chris.

The 156 'Northern Spirit' folder was not included in the 142 extra stock pack. It was included in the AP26 S&C extra stock pack, but all that folder contains is a file named 'class156_numbers.dcsv'.
None of the actual scenario's for the S&C reference the 'BRClass156\Northern Spirit' folder.

Email to Richard me thinks
For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it ;-)

The extra stock pack was updated yesterday afternoon after we realised the Northern Spirit reskin had been incorrectly left out of the pack so if you re-download, hopefully all should be well.

Apologies about the inconvenience!
