After using the unit a bit more (Inbetween Black Mesa). Found it to be fantastic, such a pleasure to drive just got to get used to the brakes a bit.

Also found this nice little easter egg as well.

I recall a trip on the original class 140 prototype between Cumbernauld and Springburn, when it was on its nationwide demonstration tour.

Thank God that Greater Glasgow PTE took one look and said no way. While it meant waiting seven more years for the 156's I'm in no doubt that the introduction of pacers would have led to several more diesel operated lines in Strathclyde going the way of the Kilmacolm branch.

This one has me beat: I had previously saved the 2H97 scenario on the S&C at 60mph a couple of miles north of Armathwaite. When I load it back up the AWS alarm sounds (which I cancel), and the 142's reverser is stuck in the off position. The only way I can find to move it is to stop and remove/replace the master key. Any ideas?

Hi

I'm having a few keyboard problems, which I initially put it down to my laptop keyboard. It get a problem with the throttle when starting off in a new scenario, and then again if I have applied brakes with a bit more excitement than I should, and I find that it seems to kill the engine, which I notice because of seeing the revs down at 600 rpm when I was still in say notch 4 or 5. I get around it by dropping the throttle to 0, putting the reverser into reverse, back again to forward, then increasing the throttle, and then I see the revs creep back up.

@Dave - you mentioned a few posts back about altering the sensitivity of the keys. It seems I'm the only one having problems like this, so is this adjustment something I could do myself?

Brake step 2 or 3, I cant remember which of the top of my head kills the power, as told to me by a 142 driver, and you need to reset to 0 throttle, no need to put reverser into N though

Hi Dave

So that's an actual feature? Well I'm even more impressed now, and ashamed of my obvious bad driving skills!

Seriously, I'll have another go. Thanks for the info.

Does anyone know when the 142 is susceptible to wheelslip? Is it in snowy conditions or when it rains. I'm on about the RW model by the way.

How does RW's wheel slip work?

Heavy rain and snow, but only during the actual rain and snow, ie. being winter doesnt affect it, but winter and snowing (or infact summer and snowing) will.

The worse the conditions the more you'll see it.

Loading a saved scenario

For some time now Railworks has handled loading saved scenarios badly, Upon loading, sometimes you will be in the wrong cab, othertimes you will be upside down beneath the ground. This is not a new issue.

The issue seems to affect all multiple units, or double headed single cab locomotives, but oddly not double cabbed locomotives. it doesn't matter whether they are heavily scripted or not. Usually the issue is more apparent if you have changed cabs during the scenario but other times not.

With the introduction of quick drive in TS2013 it is possible that these issues will disappear, to enable users to use the "Relay Play" feature with none of the above problems, but only time will tell.

I have tried to recreate the issue of locked reversers and throttles on loading a scenario but cant. The video below is of the 2H97 scenario on the settle & Carlisle route. As you can see, loading puts me right back in the forward cab with all controls responding normally. But, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just that I cant recreate it.

If you are able to reliably recreate an issue where the controls are locked in the cab you load into and know where your save file is located, PM me and I will give you an email address to send it to. Hopefully if I can get enough I might be able to see a pattern, if indeed one exists.

This thing is more realistic than I thought. Having been drafted in to work a Leeds train from Carlisle after the usual 158 packed in, my Pacer has also turned duff.

Seriously, I need some help to get this thing working. What am I doing wrong?

The unit is running, I've got all my lights set up and the passengers are loaded. The doors close and my guard gives the buzzer. I acknowledge and reduce the brake to 19% (I presume this to be step 1) and increase power to notch 2. I then release the brake fully (0%) and await movement, but nothing happens. I'd expect the engine to rev or something, but alas all I can hear is a 'Shed' yinging away on the adjacent platform.

"Northern are sorry to announce that the 18:18 service to Leeds is cancelled because the driver has given up."

I shall give it another go tomorrow.

Have you released the DRA (press R, or it's the red switch at the lower left of the windscreen)?

It's always the obvious things that catch you out, although in my defence, I was going by the book! :P

Cheers, Steve. With an hour or so delay, my passengers finally got away from Carlisle, although they were most upset when I turfed them all off at Armathwaite and said I'm off to bed! :D

Dave, tonight I will try and send you my saved scenario where this does happen.
