I'd think 2004 would make plenty of sense. I reckon RSC would certainly like to see their 4CIG flying off the shelves again! This used to be my "home" route so I'm very excited!

Did RSC "pick up" the existing payware development, or will this be a duplication?

They just can't please everyone. Too many modern routes then one group moans. Too many steam era routes the other group moans.

Its us fans of the blue stuff in the middle that don't get much of a look in!!

Although mainly a fan of the 70's and 80's, what I like about Railworks is the diversity. You can be pottering up the Falmouth Branch on the footplate of a Pannier one moment then racing up the WCML in a Pendolino the next. However I would like to see more "classic diesel" era routes!

According to http://www.railsimulator.com/products.php the best-selling routes apart from Woodhead are the Northeast Corridor, Donner Pass and Horseshoe Curve - all three set in the USA and two of them set in the modern(ish) era. Looking at loco/trainset DLC it is also about 50-50.

Full London to Brighton electrification was achieved on 1 January 1933. However, the inner suburban part of the route was electrified earlier. The LBSCR electrified a significant part of its suburban network on the overhead system (reaching as far as Coulsdon North). After the 1923 Grouping these lines were, of course, converted to the 3rd rail DC system previously adopted by the LSWR (arguably the dominant partner in the newly created Southern Railway).

Thus if the new route were to be set in a steam only era it would be necessary to go back quite a long way in time! Of course, steam operation of some services, not least of freight traffic and inter-regional workings, continued into the 1960s. Thomson interactive as the developers would make sense to me due to the success they've had running routes in and out of heavily populated areas like Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Steam still traverses three rails.


Yay for the Electrostar though. I think I'll be saving for this now instead of going for the Settle-Carlisle.

It looks like a really nice project, they've done a great job with the landmarks and there's a great sense of space, a real window starer outer Yet I can see the facebook discussions becoming a bit one sided. Not that I'm advertising in any way here (I'm very interested to see what they come up with) but having people posting about how this is automatically going to be the better version just because they saw 4 WIP screenshots of the route, isn't ever going to give anyone an honest mindset when they choose to purchase. I am fully aware that nobody here has, or ever will have control over what is posted there, but I would like to say that we have put a lot of effort into our version and although we will be releasing at a later date, I do hope that at least all the good folks over here at UkTainSim will give Trains and Drivers a chance to show you what we can do before you make a decision. Again I'm not here to advertise for TaD, I would just like to see what you all think of it, and I'm certainly not ranting on about the work of RSC, they're doing a superb job!

It amazes me that absolutely any thread instantly turns into sniping and arguing, it's only an announcement thread for christ sake. If there was a way to measure energy wasted by arguing, then convert that into a measurement for what it takes to build a route, I bet we could have a new period route every month!

I was initially refering to the "famous" splash screen that annouced Woodhead as there biggest selling route ever, not the top 10

Which still holds no relevance to the sniping back and forth about WCML North and therefore means there were no facts to argue about.

I am going to harness this negative energy though, there must be a scientific way to turn it all into something useful.

I'm looking forward to this one as I used to work at East Croydon station for 5 years.

If it is the whole route, plenty of scope for stopping services to and from Croydon as well as fast services to Brighton.

I would imagine a highly detailed, Clapham Junction and Victoria could well bring the best of systems to their knees on high settings.
