I have appreciate your good guideline report !
For me this settings are improved the visual in game ! Notabily the anisotropic 16 x and texture filtering negative LOD BIAS at Clamp !
Primary I had used the basic Nvidia control panel for this, but without effect in game !
Secondary I use the the good Nvidia Inspector as you and this make a good result in game without a down off FPS !
My rig is similar as your : i7 965 @ stock @ 3.2 Ghz with turbo mode @ 3.4 Ghz - GTX 580 @ 1.5 Go - 12 Go DDR3 Ram Tri CH Corsair PC 12800 @ 1600 Mhz - HDD WD Véloci. 10000 Rpm - OS W7 Pro 64 Bit
Thank you VR that helped me !
Best Regards
Gerard

You're most welcome gents.

Please note that since my post, I have been tending towards SSAA 1x2 (or even MLAA + MSAA x8) as it doubes my FPS, yet retains a decent image quality.

Hello David

!
I'm sorry, but whatever profil I set does'nt give anything to perform the look in game . It is just a placébo effect !
So far as I tested it, just only settings in tab RW3 have real effects in game.
For me I have TSX on, Aniso 8x and SSAA 2X2 and graphics on Highest without DOF and BLOOM. I get (depend of the line and scenaries used) between 20 and 30 FPS with a good look in game !
Sometimes FPS drop down for few seconds to 14/15 but is caused by disk access and loads of part heavy scenery !
Best regards
Gérard

Hi, have you added the "railworksproc2.exe" file into the Rail Simulator profile in Inspector?

I got brand new computer (custom made) for my birthday. It runs TS2012 like a dream!
I've got 3GB of RAM and ATI Radeon HD 6900 Series graphics card. I did want a Nvidia Card, but doesn't seem to make a difference!
I can run TS2012 (using Autumn Leaves as a test) on High Settings for anti-aliasing etc and in game all settings are at High or Highest. Shadows are at medium.
I'm getting 30-40 FPS, compares to 14-20 FPS (with settings on low/medium) on my old system, I'm made up everything is so smooth.
I was shocked to see after an update many people's TS2012 performance had improved, so part of me thought, my old computer could have ran it after all! But I've got my new system and I'm not looking back

I would like to know what is the point of releasing a game that will only run at 14/15 fps on high end pcs with all game settings at the highest level. What chance do us mere mortals with mid range pcs have to run the game with any kind of decent fps and graphic settings.

An 8800GT is enough to run at "High" (as opposed to "Very High" or "Highest") settings at 1920x1200 without bogging down too much. That's several years old now, and most people stuck with older hardware will have smaller monitors.
Low-end cards probably can't turn on shadows due to lack of VRAM bandwidth, but I was able to coax even that out of an AMD Fusion system - with on-die integrated graphics! - by selecting a lower resolution. It runs fine at the higher resolution without shadows.
There are performance problems on the CPU side though, which show up sporadically and for not entirely understood reasons. At times, an overclocked Core i7 is insufficient to keep the framerate over 14. At the same time, an old dual-core Socket 939 CPU is sufficient for when the problem *doesn't* hit, except for WCML-N which has always been a pain.

Thank you for your reply Kromaatikse, but I still say what is the point of releasing a game with all these fantastic bells and whistles that no can run with decent graphics and frame rates. To me Its like being given a brand new Ferrari and finding when you drive of its fitted with a Austin 7 engine(now I am showing my age)

It look good but does not perform.

And I wonder how many users and how many computers, and how many times, have rebooted their PCs this week

Hi, have you added the "railworksproc2.exe" file into the Rail Simulator profile in Inspector?
Hello David

!
Oh yes sure have created a new profil for RailWorksProc2.exe file... I know very well the use of Nividia Inspector because I use it for FSX and other game also ....!
But what is for me a bit confused is when I use whatever profil for RW3 (railworksproc2.exe), I don't see some improvement in the look of the game and if I set i.e. for vertical synchronisation with 3 frames prerendered and the triple buffer on, in the game this work very well with vertical synchronisation with a locked frame rate at 30 fps ! With Nividia Inspector or Nvidia profil control panel it seems only some features like Vertical synchro when applyed on the nvidia driver are usefull ! This proves that Nvidia Inspector or Nvidia Control Panel profil make something on the nvidia driver !
The other features or setup in profil which should applyed throught the nvidia driver at the level of TSX engine seems not make any difference ! I doubt this make some improvement !
Best regards
Gerard

The thing I believe that makes the most difference to fps in the game is Shadow Quality
I can have medium or high on the first settings page but like I say in the options screen
in the actual game its the Shadow quality that pulls it down for me ??
I would suggest setting it to Shadow Quality Off to get all you other setting first and then
have a go a the shadow quality settings last
All I can say is it worked for me and I hope it helps you

My computer specs are :- windows 7 64 bit + 8 gig ram, gigabyte ds3 770 MB. Ati 4870 G/card 512mb. Normally in 1920 x 1080 but shown here in windowed so you can see whats happening on Gpu/Cpu front. No boxes ticked at bottom, shadows on high, distance one down from top. Look at frame rates and cpu/gpu useage.

So it's only using 30% of your GPU power!

hi, hoping for some advice on windows please, getting a lot of game crashes with railworks and finding it very frustrating, my PC specs as follows
vista home premium 32bit
intel core 2 duo E6850 3GHz
Nvidia geforce GTS450
4 GB ram
i thought this was a decent spec PC but still getting problems, have been thinking maybe i should upgrade to 64 bit system but i dont think it is available for vista anymore so would need to buy window7 and upgrade from there, before i buy do you guys think this will help to run the game better or should i upgrade something else instead?
cheers
