Is Newcastle to Kings Cross possible?
Hi all
I've recently downloaded the Kings cross -> Peterborough add-on from steam hoping that I'd be able to then drive from Newcastle to Kings cross. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case. Is it possible to do this route? If so what do I need to do?
I originally bought TS 2013 on steam which includes the north east line (Newcastle to Leeds)

Re: Is Newcastle to Kings Cross possible?
Peterborough to York can be obtained from Creative rail http://www.creativerail.co.uk/home. There is also a modern version of York to Newcastle (ie with OHLE) around http://www.justtrains.net/product/newca ... n-download, so it is possible to drive from Kings X to Newcastle (and then Newcastle to Edinburgh http://www.justtrains.net/product/newca ... h-download, Edinburgh to Dundee http://www.justtrains.net/product/scott ... e-download and Dundee to Montrose http://www.caledonianrailworks.blogspot.co.uk/).
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Although theoretically you can drive from Kings Cross to Dundee, you have to swap sims,it can't be run in one continuous journey

Re: Is Newcastle to Kings Cross possible?
Not being able to run the whole way from London to Dundee in one go is quite prototypical though. You would expect at least one, if not 2, changes of driver, maybe more depending on the era of the service.michaelhendle wrote:Although theoretically you can drive from Kings Cross to Dundee, you have to swap sims,it can't be run in one continuous journey

What I meant by saying change Sims was you need Dtg Kings Cross -Peterborough,Creative Rail Peterborough -York,can't remember which one from York -Newcastle,Then Just Trains Newcastle -Edinburgh.
Some times what I write is different to what I mean, strokes' do funny things to the brain at times, and my excuse.

Ahhh...I'm with you now Mike; thought there was another game I was unaware of then....
Newcastle - York, one of the original RailSimulator routes and still available on Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/208303
Newcastle - York Modern, a Just Trains released version updated by Darren Porter http://www.justtrains.net/product/newca ... n-download
East Coast Mainline: North East, again by Darren Porter--a rework of his earlier rework. Originally available on the Steam Workshop but now from http://www.dpsimulation.org.uk
You have a choice of 3:michaelhendle wrote:can't remember which one from York -Newcastle

Once you go above 100 miles on a route, you start to run into difficulties regarding refresh rates and memory usage. So the 400 miles from Kings X to Edinburgh splits nicely into the 4 routes mentioned previously. It would be possible to have a 400 mile route, but it would have very limited scenery, and virtually no AI in scenarios. Best stick with driver changes every 100 miles.michaelhendle wrote:Although theoretically you can drive from Kings Cross to Dundee, you have to swap sims,it can't be run in one continuous journey

This sounds like important info. I had a feeling they'd be issues with long routes. However I wouldn't mind splitting the trip up into different parts, it'd take too long in one sitting anyway.brysonman46 wrote:Once you go above 100 miles on a route, you start to run into difficulties regarding refresh rates and memory usage. As I've already got the included Newcastle-York and purchased Peterborough-Kings Cross can I just clarify that I need to simply get the Peterborough to York Line from somewhere (would http://www.creativerail.co.uk be a good choice?) and then split the journey into 3 separate routes (Newcastle-York, York-Peterborough, Peterborough-Kings Cross)
Also I'd prefer to do the route in one train, would this be a problem? I didn't see any option for the intercity 125 (which I normally use on the Newcastle-York line) on my Peterborough-Kings Cross line.

Re: Is Newcastle to Kings Cross possible?
Hi, you just need to click Kuju as a provider for that route in the scenario editor to see the HST. Most of the newer routes don't use Kuju assets so it isn't ticked by default.

Re: Is Newcastle to Kings Cross possible?
Note that your original "Newcastle to York" is pre-electrification, whereas the Creative Rail "York to Peterborough" and DTG "Kings X to Peterborough" are with OHLE. Doesn't matter too much if you are driving a HST, though some of the AI might be "out of time" somewhere along the line.

You may not have seen the set of scenarios from RolandBP on the Workshop going from KingsX to Edinburgh (e.g. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =533270807). He is using a Deltic, but it is possible to change the consist to an HST in the Editor.

Well done if you have OHLE on Creative's York to Peterborough, as the modern version hasn't been released yet.brysonman46 wrote: Note that your original "Newcastle to York" is pre-electrification, whereas the Creative Rail "York to Peterborough" and DTG "Kings X to Peterborough" are with OHLE.
