A few bits of advise

Post by glennbtn »

Hi All

I have just purchased Train simulator 2015, never used 1 before.

I have done a few of the courses in the Academy and then decided to try the career section. I am having 2 issues or this may be standard

The brief for example says arrive at a station 15:44 and leave 15:45. If this is the case, why would it take 2 minutes to load the train as your then running late.

Also the first capital connect train I am using only does 101mph. The speed limit is say 125 so I arrive late as I can't keep to time.

Is this all correct or do I have an issue somewhere.

Any advised would be great

Thanks

Hi Glenn, welcome to the forum.

The career scenarios have a history of being unrealistic with the timings, meaning that to complete many you have to drive like a lunatic so you haven't a problem with your machine or settings.
Which scenario are you trying?...if you name it somebody will be able to run through it on their system and see just what the issues are.

Hi Glenn welcome to the UKTS forums. I shall try to help you. Firstly you should be aware that many scenarios have bugs in them when they are released making them hard if not impossible to complete. I know for instance from reading on the forums that many of the Donner Pass career scenarios are broken and are impossible to complete successfully. Also scenarios on some DLC packs released on earlier versions of the simulator get broken when the next version is released. Basically Dovetail do not perhaps test things as much as they should - it is something they are criticised about often on the community forums. Even new releases often have bugs in them. If you check the general discussions a thread is usually created announcing the release of each DLC pack. In these threads the community discusses the good and bad points of the product and any bugs or inaccuracies are usually mentioned here. Usually the bugs are not game stoppers and because it is still the best train simulator available at the moment, despite its problems, it is something you just get used to living with.

Dovetail are aware of the problems and complaints and I believe are starting to address many of the issues reported however they can be slow at fixing things if they ever get things at all. There have been a number of patches released by Dovetail recently addressing a number problems reported - a good sign indeed.

The train simulator software is a different beast than that of your normal mainline game. It is a specialised piece of software with limited customer base and Dovetail just wont have the budget for quality control that the bigger software houses can afford to implement. The simulator itself can be tricky and complex to work with especially if you are a beginner and you are trying to customise the sim by adding additional stock not available on steam or if you wish add additional rolling stock skins/liveries. Luckily TS2015 is supported by a very good community with helpful forums such as here at UKTS. I have found this site and forum an invaluable source of information for both the simulator and also for prototypical information on the railways so any questions, ask away someone here will know the answer. With persistence you will get to know how the simulator works, expand your route rolling stock collection and start making your own scenarios (that work properly :-p) - that is when you will start getting the best out of TS2015.

Back to your original query, we need some more info - please supply as much information as possible about your problem. We would need to know the name of the career scenario(s) and route before we can assist further - it may be the scenario in question may be a known broken scenario.

One reason why a station stop might take longer than it should will be if you stop your train outside the "marker" zone - try to ensure that you stop exactly when the distance to the stop reads 0.00 on the F4 HUD. If you stop within, say, 0.05 of the marker, loading will take longer, particularly if your coaches are off the end of the platform.

Practice will soon enable you to get this right. :)

That's correct. The 125mph limit applies to any train using that part of the track but each type of train has its own limit and the Thameslink train isn't allowed to go faster than 100mph. The rule is that the maximum speed you're allowed to drive at is the lower of the two, so even if you could get more than 101 out of the Thameslink train you'd be speeding, although the game only takes the track limit into account when scoring the career scenarios.
