Package manager TS2014
Hi all,
Its been literally years since I ran TSim.
But I remember I used to use a Package manager to install ,rwp files etc.
How are third party files now installed on this latest version of RWorks?
Ive managed to get some Workshop files down but dont know how for instance, to install UKTS downloaded files.
Regards JohnT

John,
Look in the Railworks folder. There's a file called "Utilities.exe". That's the file you need to run to get the Package Manager. Best to put a shortcut to it on your desktop since you'll probably be needing it quite often.

Re: Package manager TS2014
It varies. Some are still in the same format while others - the freeware packs, for example - have installers. There should be installation instructions inside the ZIP files.

Re: Package manager TS2014
RWP files are still installed with Package Manager. You can also use a program called 7Zip to open RWP files and manually install the files. Saves waiting around for package manager to refresh all the time which can take ages. Most UKTS files come with there own installer.
Intel i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad Core, Asus P8Z 68-V LE MB, Asus GTX 1060 Strix 6GB Gaming graphics card, Windows 10 Home 64 bit, 16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 ram, Viewsonic VX2452mh LED 1080P HD Monitor. Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HD, Seagate Firecuda 2 TB HD,

Thanks lads - the old grey matter needs a bit of a kick start these days.
Re: Package manager TS2014
OK, still on the learning curve.
Tried to install the Barnstaple to exeter route, last night.
Opened the D/L BTEv1.zip using 7.Zip. - Left clicked the file -LC Add Assets - LC JaapSloot file - copied the .rwp file to a folder on the desktop.
Did the same with JADsHome and BTE_v1.0 .rwp files . Next move was to use the package manager to install the three .rwp files.
Noticed that in the Assets folder there is a folder titled JADsHome , but there is also a folder titled jjasloot and not as above JaapSloot, problem?
Checked with RailworksTools and the route is shown as being installed but on starting up Railworks2014 I cannot find a way of calling it up.
Obviously missing a trick somewhere, need help.

Re: Package manager TS2014
No route shows up in the menus if there is no scenario attached to it. Some of the more recent DTG routes don't show up in Standard, for example, because all of the scenarios are Career but it's more likely that you'll need to build something of your own or see whether there's something in the UKTS library.

Thanks - rocdoc,
It's a tad wearisome to go and purchase needed payware only to find the intended program still won't run.

But it will run, once you have something to run on it. If no scenarios are included then you won't see it in the menus---have you checked the free roam section?--so to see if it's installed go to the 'Build' option and see if it's listed.

Re: Package manager TS2014
The route comes with 11 scenarios, 6 standard and 5 quick drives so if you can't see any in game there's something amiss.
Does RW Tools show scenarios installed?
If RW Tools shows no scenarios your installation is incomplete, and as Trev has alluded to above many of us don't use Package Manager but prefer to use 7-Zip or WinRAR to open .rwp files and manually copy the files over--a simple drag and drop works well enough to extract from the .rwp archive. I haven't tried it, but it has been stated that changing the file extension from .rwp to .zip enables Windows itself to open .rwp packages. There's nothing *special* about a .rwp archive, it's just an archive containing a mirror of the games folder structure with the files needed to enable that particular package.
If this is the case use Windows Explorer to navigate to ..\RailWorks\Content\Routes\09265fc3-772c-47c3-a6f0-a0420a6e8f01\ and look for a Scenarios folder. There should be the 11 scenario folders themselves in this folder.
If they, or the folder, don't exist on your system you'd be best off using 7-Zip to open the archive, and drag and drop the Contents folder it contains into your RailWorks folder.

Re: Package manager TS2014
Where are you looking for this route? It will not show up on the Collection screen - instead you have to click on the Drive button, and then on Standard, which should show you six scenarios.J1o2h3n4 wrote:Checked with RailworksTools and the route is shown as being installed but on starting up Railworks2014 I cannot find a way of calling it up.

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Re: Package manager TS2014
Thanks one and all.
As stated by you GPTECH, on inspection in the Contents folder there is a route with that number(ID). This does contain 11 folders for scenarios.
But the problem is, as worked out by Alanch, this incredibly complex menu system c/w filters. Seem to be spending an inordinate time searching for scenarios /routes and rolling stock by third party suppliers.
I did open the files using 7zip, don't seem to have any other form of zip opening program available since installing 7zip on this machine.
See above for method used.
Is there any manual on how to use TS2014?
Regards JohnT

Well, finally found the Barnstaple to Exxeter route.
Was playing about with filters on the route drop down list. When I spotted the Barn -Exeter heading appearing above the filter list's.
Closed the filter facility and lo and behold first icon showing was the route.
At 0400 hrs I'll not be trying to work out why the previous efforts were to no avail.
