Re: Career Mode
That appears to be working as designed then. You deleted the content not Steam so "nasty" emails to them will likely go straight in the bin. That is what I do in work - if you can't email me in the civilised manner then it goes in the bit bucket.
TS2012 no longer exists unless you have preserved it in an offline copy of the folders. Steam will deliver TS 2014 so if you deleted the residual content from your PC then it will be the case that you no longer have some of the routes. The whole point is that it is cumulative updates so those of us who started way back have more content than someone who goes online today and buys TS 2014 via Steam today.
Do you not have a backup of your hard drive that you can restore from ?

I'm a little confused now... when you originally installed TS2012 you must have created a Steam account and allowed Steam to verify and upgrade your installation---as far as I'm aware it's impossible to legally install and retain TS2012 except by using a back-up copy.gptech wrote:I'd hold off un-installing for a good while, that really should be the very final, last of the last resort
As John has pointed out, a nasty e-mail to some poor support staff member who hasn't a clue who you are or what you've done won't get you much help; you'd have a better case by politely pointing out that as you've bought TS2012 you feel entitled to have the content contained with that version, content which should be tied to your Steam account.
Exactly how did you go about re-installing, was it straight from Steam or did you use the DVD?
Re: Career Mode
I did a reinstall because the routes did not work from the first install and after trying their suggestions it did not improve matters so it seems I am stuck with £28 of useless disk now. I thought a reinstall would put the routes back in, my mistake again. Think I will have to back to MSTS. I used the DVD to reinstall, that is the only way I know to reinstall things and I have not altered the DVD content so Steam must have done it. surely the DVD would reload its entire content.

Re: Career Mode
The routes would seem to be fine, your problem has been scenarios....a nit-picking point maybe, but an important one.BillSeiko wrote:I did a reinstall because the routes did not work from the first install
You'd assume so, but the DVD has always been a 'starter' for the full install which is from the Steam servers--when first installing the game you have to create a Steam user account to which your purchased content is tied. This is a great boon if ever you have a hard drive fail as you can just log on to Steam and it will re-build all your Steam acquired assets etc. Once you have the game installed and your Steam account set up then yes, you're right--the disc is useless as the details of content you're entitled to have is stored on Steam's system. Once again something that's pretty handy if you damage or lose your DVD.BillSeiko wrote:surely the DVD would reload its entire content.
When you re-installed did you create another Steam user account?
EDIT:
Now I'm even more confused now I've had a think.... TS2012 doesn't include London-Brighton, upgrading from TS2012 only gives you the improvements to the game but not the routes that TS2014 contains so how you've managed to get L-B loading (albeit partly) is a mystery. All this was explained to you in your previous threads about which game to buy.
Re: Career Mode
I used the same account as I know Steam will not let you use another for the same game.
In Steam apps/railworks/content it shows 8 routes but not when loading game????
If I was to buy a brand new S 2012, which I have found on Just Trains how would I go about getting it to works with all 8 routes?

Which routes are you seemingly missing, and where in the game are you looking for them?BillSeiko wrote:In Steam apps/railworks/content it shows 8 routes but not when loading game????

You may have 8 folders under ..\Content\Routes but that doesn't mean you have all the files that are needed in those folders.
Re: Career Mode
Just checked Contents and you are right, it has only got TS2014 routes in there. It is a great shame as I wanted the extra UK routes that original TS2012 had. Looks like my pension money is going to be short for a couple of weeks now. Maybe I am too old for all this techie stuff.

Re: Career Mode
What are the names of the routes you have?
Re: Career Mode
Go on ,call me an idiot but I have ordered TS2012 again from Just trains so when it comes I will be pleading for advice how to install it without losing its content again.
Thanks

Bill,
Cancel that order for another DVD - you will not get on any benefit from it. Steam already knows that you have a legitimate copy of TrainSimulator 2014, and you will have to sort out your problems with the help of folks on this forum.
regards Ted.

Re: Career Mode
Hi again Bill,
I posted that little note straight away to you as I saw you were on line when I wrote it.
The first thing to understand is that Train Simulator 2014 is the current version of the game. It started off four years ago and is in constant development and improvement.
When you bought the DVD for TS2012 all you had on the disk was enough to get you on line to Steam and to validate your purchase of the game. Steam then downloads the full version of the game to you, and brings it bang up to date, so anyone who buys a DVD, be it the original game from four years ago or a more up to date DVD, they will have it updated by Steam to the very latest version i.e. Train Simulator 2014.
The fact that you started off with TS 2012 will mean that Steam knows that you should have the routes that were included in that version of the game. You should get them back one way or another.
I don't have the game myself so I cannot advise you precisely what to do, but I do know that the ins and outs of the latest version of the game is not all that easy to understand for an absolute beginner, specially for older people.
Have another go at what you are trying to do and make precise and detailed notes of what you are doing, and then post those notes on here. We've got some pretty good people on here who know quite a lot about the game, they will then be better able to help you.
Take it easy and don't lose patience too soon.
regards Ted.

Re: Career Mode
Oops too late Ts2012 has already been dispatched.
If I re-register with steam using a different email address will that not work?
Think I have really upset the support Team with the angry email I sent to them so don't think they will help now but yes I was angry at losing my TS 2012 content. Now I have spent £44 on TS 2012 out of my pension so just hope I can get it working OK.

Re: Career Mode
Hi Bill,
The best thing to do now is when you receive the new DVD from Just Trains, don't open it! If you leave the DVD box just as it is sealed up, then you can have a word with Just Trains and explain the circumstances to them. I am sure they will accept it back and refund you the cost of the DVD so long as it has obviously not been opened.
There is no point in having two accounts with Steam as that will probably not solve your present problems. Make a not of what exactly you are doing in trying to get things working right, then you will be able to explain things on this forum better, and get better help.
Sometimes people come on here with only a scanty explanation of what they are doing, which makes it hard of those with experience of the game to fathom out what the real problem is.
Give it all a bit of time and I'm sure you'll get there in the end
regards Ted.

Re: Career Mode
Before we can work out how best to advise you we need to know exactly what we're dealing with, so once again what routes do you have showing in the game, and do they load up?
Re: Career Mode
This is going to be long winded but here goes.
On collection 5 routes as follows :- Cajon Pass , East Coast Mainline , Great Western Mainline, Ruhr-Sieg Line and Somerset &Dorset Railway.
In Career Mode it also gives me Scenarios on :-Castle Rock , Hedborough and Seebergbahn.
Also gives scenarios on the last 2 routes in Standard Mode as well as the above routes that are in Collection.
Sorry but my old brain is really confused now.
PS All the scenarios work Ok.
Like I said I did make the mistake of Reinstalling both Steam and TS2012.
Thanks
Bill
