Regarding this thread tried a search on Internet and downloadable perhaps early version?
http://www.elvastower.com/forums/index. ... pen-rails/
Got as far as downloading it but that's all so far.
Had another look v 0.610 I think
http://www.elvastower.com/forums/index. ... ntry198133
Thanks Barry
P.S Got as far as planting 12 trees. Would be interested to know more of file types to us. Convert from Blender for my own content which I use in my BGE maritime routes. Blender can convert to numerous file types but which will work in OR editor?, etc. Interesting for trying it out bit by bit on new routes in case of damage to existing 'train' routes...

With making maritime routes in the Blender Game Engine I always try and find alternative solutions.
I realise the OR route editor is still in process of being created.
At still use 3DEM to make height maps from srtm2 data, . A script converts this to Blender mesh up to say 50 km. There is also new script that can use just srtm2.
After converting the Blender 'blend' file to a different file type perhaps terrain could be used as a template to create OR Terrain around it, then delete template.I just explore possibilities with what I make or use and not conjecture, so interested to see how I could/might be able to use OR/Editor. World actual location then not needed as terrain mesh then just an object?

Had a play with the current version 06.11. Impressed so far with the stability. Manage to do some resignalling and some platform parameters. Next version will have mouse functionality for object movement.

Is anyone using this Editor? I have versions 11 and 13 of it and both crash as soon as I try to load a route. This is the screen after trying to load Japan1 route using v11. Version 13 gives a similar crash but the black window remains blank.

Version 7 loads the routes ok, but I am having difficulty using it. I have been trying to place catenary gantries, copy (CtrlC) and paste (CtrlV) without success. I can place gantries at the default rotation 0 0 0 1, but have had no luck trying to copy the rotation from one that is already placed.
I would like to be successful with this as I am having dreadful trouble with MSTS RE. Repeated crashes that I cannot get away from despite some quite drastic action, deleting track database, deleting half the world tiles etc. Next step is to reinstall MSTS tomorrow.

Suggestion: As the author of the editor is quite secretive about the functions and which parts of the editor work and which don't, wouldn't it be a good idea to collect information and experience from all users somewhere in this forum?

Collect the information if you consider that it will be useful but I suggest you (re)read the discussion on Elvas Tower and perhaps reconsider your opinion.

Why should I change my opinion? Elvas Tower is the esoteric Ivory castle for OR already and that I decidedly don't like. If I'm lucky I may read some discussion or parts of discussions but I never can post and ask questions or search for information. I'm not happy when the per se very useful but partly cryptic TSRE5 goes down the same drain. But if there is no support for my suggestion it's ok with me either.

Hi Hannes44,
Why should I change my opinion?
It's a pity that Elvastower isn't currently accepting new members, but it's a result of one particular individual's efforts, who almost took the site down completely. It's a case of "once bitten, twice shy", but I believe the administrators over there are considering ways of allowing access to, at least, the Open Rails Forums. Please, just have patience!
Regarding the new Route Editor. As far as I know, this is completely the efforts of one man who is, rightly to my mind, spending his (limited) time concentrating on getting the program to work correctly as well as including requested facilities. He is also working on the new Consist Editor, which appears to be part of the Route Editor! When it's completed, it'll be a great replacement for the MSTS RE, but I don't envy him his task!! He is issuing regular updates, which both correct reported errors and include requested modifications. I'm sure an Operating Manual will be issued in the fullness of time.
Cheers,
Ged

I appreciate OR is a free program made by a number of people in their spare time. the same way I make ship routes available for download from my site for free in the Blender Game Engine using my spare time.
However just like to mention the 'have patience' I don't think is any longer applicable to me, as the factor of age seems to have been forgotten.
5 or 10 or 15 year wait could be a lifetime for some. Life doesn't stand still !
So I don't think it is worthwhile for me to follow the 'future progress of OR as an independant program any longer '.
So back to my making my ship routes only.

I really appreciate the efforts of the OR team and those of Goku and I'm grateful. Btw most of us non-commercial developers, builders etc. work in our spare time. What I don't understand is the elitist secrecy of elvas tower forum and the complete lack of info for TSRE5. I would very much like to help and assist with my experience and I would like to understand the offered programs to use them efficiently and correctly. That's impossible at the moment and that's regrettable.

It is going to be years before OR gets fully featured with what is aspired to. What I do know is that's its capable of offering features that are beyond the DTG remit. I have heavily re engineered a route that was completed for MSTS to try and push OR to the max in timetable mode. I can count on the fingers one hand how many times its crashed which compared to MSTS is nothing. If Goku can get his RE working then its a major boon and another step forward for OR. The Elvas tower thing is very frustrating but info can be read on there which is better than nothing. Am happy with pace of things considering its free and very much a WIP.

Elvas Tower is not a secretive elitist group, but has had to terminate new automatic registrations and be selective in who they do allow to register. This is because of the efforts of one individual as already been explained. The lack of info for TSRE5 is nothing whatsoever to do with Elvas Tower or the OR team there. That is because the author of the software has not released any proper documentation.
