Hi,
I have a problem with Activity 116 The Return Run in Open Rails
Britannia has no power
It cannot climb out of Liverpool
If you can please help me, I would be very grateful.

Hi Graham,

No problems leap out of the page at me when I scan the MSTS eng file. There is a good climb out of Lime Street and locos take a while to warm up in OR.

Could you please post the name of the consist - perhaps the problem is with the stock.

If you give me a few days or a week I will try and knock up an OR eng file for the Britannia. Perhaps someone else can give do the same or give you a quick fix before then.

Hi Graham,
You're correct that the loco in its MSTS form doesn't have the power to get away so here is a OR file I set up that seems to work ok.

Before you do anything, you need to amend the activity to increase the coal level starting state. Open up the activity file, scroll down past the description text of the activity until you come to: FuelCoal ( 30). Change the number to 100. OR has more realistic coal and water usage so you would probably run out of coal before the activity ends. The activity still gives a warning the tender is empty for some reason but can't find a reason why.

To get the loco working properly,
1) Open the UK_Steam_BR_Britannia_70000 folder in your trains folder and create a new folder calling it OpenRails.
2) Copy the MSTS 70000 eng file into the OpenRails folder, open it, and delete all of the contents.
3) Copy and paste the following text into the OpenRails eng file. Cheers, Clive

I don't use any BR era locos, but I have found in other stock that if the tender is labelled as 'tender' in the WAG file then the loco does not see it and the coal level is 0. The tender WAG file MUST read as 'Tender', for the loco to recognize it and establish the level of coal available.

Hi Brian,
I'd remembered reading that somewhere so checked and the wagon file had the capital T.

There must be a reference to the coal starting state somewhere else but can't think where.

It didn't affect the activity although periodically the warning ' tender empty, your loco will fail' message popped up. Got to Euston with the coal level at 28% so I was right in thinking frustration would have occured if the starting state was left as 30%.
