Well, well...

Wheel slip it is now then. (Unless some error in editing the eng file.)

I just tried that activity in both OR 1.3 and in OR Monogame and no problem.

Before you start driving try pressing the F5 key for useful information about brakes, speed, power and so on.

I can happily depart Weston with 25% throttle. If you do get into wheel slip (red warning if you have F5 display on) then you must close the throttle completely and reopen again slowly.

No problems with consist rolling stock. Sending you a pm.

Hi Everyone
I have posted an engine file for a class 35 Hymek. I have found that this combination works ok from a gaming point of view but would be the first to admit that it may well not be technically accurate.

This file is only set up for the Open Rails platform and Vacuum Braked diesel locos. Air braked versions use a different .eng file using the appropriate air brakes parameters and values.

I have omitted the “lights” section as it is unchanged from the MSTS file.

Graham. I do hope this will not make you even more confused!!!

I would certainly download and study Darwin’s “Vacuum Brakes In ORTS”. I am sure that like me you will find it a goldmine of information. Also take a look sometime at the “Coals to Newcastle” web site where again you will find almost everything you need to know about Open Rails and finally of course the Open Rails manual.

P.S. Darwin I have just seen your post with regard to hydraulic transmissions. In the above .eng file I have commented out the original gearbox settings and substituted a two speed gearbox. As written it does work in the sim but I will experiment a little more with it next week.

Hi Terry,
I have just applied your .eng file to this loco (D7013_JB, supplied with the Paddington to Penzance route).

From Graham's original post, I have deduced that he is a newcomer to MSTS/ORTS and I feel that he may be even more confused by your file!
It is with great respect that I point out the following, referring to this particular loco :
1. The cabview line is incorrect and, in OR, results in no cabview interior being shown
2. A comment on line 135 is shown as "Commrnt" - I don't know what effect this would have because I corrected it before running the loco.
3. The loco won't start moving (D7013le consist) until the throttle is at 38%. With Darwin's version, movement commenced at 13% (ie the first throttle position).
4. Hymeks might have been smokey locos (I don't know!) but I think our adjusted values give a more realistic appearance.

Hi folks

I think Terry might have the better file with regard to power to start. Perhaps folks could look at videos to check this - my impression is you often do not a lot of throttle to get hydraulics moving. (Witness British class 158 drivers today who run up the power very rapidly to get away from a start. Interestingly the Thai drivers seem to start off with less power though.)

Anyway apart from thoughts of transmission what information I have on resistance says that due to coupled wheels on each bogie the starting resistance was higher than on a loco with electric transmission where each axle was independent.

I've just checked out some clips of Hymeks on Youtube - they were/are very smokey, especially when revving up!! So, sorry Terry, your smoke parameters are nearer to reality than mine :oops:

If the MSTS default dieselsmoke.ace is replaced by the medium version of the replacement from 3DTrains, the exhaust starts as nearly black then turns grey. Seems I am wrong with the guess of two speed. (Does that apply to class 158 today?)

Anyway back to the original gears on the Hymek. The Mekydro transmission was a four speed affair. So original gears probably correct.

Yes I would think Graham is very much bemused by a simple request for help escalating “out of control” so to speak. The simple fact is that the .eng and .wag files for the stock that he is enquiring about were never written with Open Rails in mind and as such contain data which MSTS can cope with but Open Rails will not accept. The most frequent request for help seems to revolve around brake issues, usually caused by both air and vacuum brakes being specified in different sections of the same .eng file. Most problems can be rectified quickly by the editing of the Open Rails copy of the locos .eng file. My point is that anyone who wants to run MSTS stock in Open Rails will have to be able to edit and adapt stock files to be compatible with OR, if that item of stock will not run.

I have taken another look at the .eng file for the Hymek that I posted yesterday, specifically with reference to the issues that you have raised.

Taking them in order:-

1 I have not been able to find any reason why the cabview line should be causing a problem. I have the same line in all of the other Hymeks in my Trainset folder and a random check of three of these did not produce any “non appearance” of the cabview. I have also run the test route (Briscard) and stock through MSTS_checkv2.0 but no problems were reported.

2 The entry on line 135 is a typing error and should just read Comment (etc etc. This error did not seem to cause OR any operating problems as when corrected there did not seem to be any difference to the locos performance. Out of curiosity I introduced the typo into the MSTS version of the same locos .eng file at a comment line. MSTS also ran ok with the error which I found really strange as MSTS does not usually tolerate any typing errors…. anywhere!!

3 The initial movement of the loco seems to require a throttle setting as set below
Light engine: throttle 13%
Loco plus 12 mk1’s 378t-uk: throttle38%
Loco plus rake of open 4 wheeled wagons 1163t-uk (Overloaded) : throttle 75%
To achieve different throttle settings it is possible to change the following line in the .eng file
GearBoxMaxTractiveForceForGears( 217000N 200000N 140000N 130000N ) replacing with higher values the first two entries.
I have chosen the these values to give slow control over light engine movements and reasonable throttle control over the rest of the speed range, bearing in mind at what point the automatic gearbox changes gear.

4 The smoke from diesel loco can be varied to suit individual preferences. I have the 3DTrains smoke download installed and set for medium smoke. The settings are as below:-

Hi Terry,
Cabview for D7013.
As supplied with the Paddington to Penzance route (v2.5), this loco has Cabview ( Hymek.cvf).
Your version has : Cabview ( "..\\..\\common.cab\\Hymek\\Hymek.cvf" )
This is great, and looks OK, BUT the latter .cvf file does not alias the cabview .ace files to 'common.cab\\Hymek'.

The Hymek.cvf file in the loco's Cabview folder DOES alias the .ace files to 'common.cab\\Hymek' correctly.

You may well have a corrected version, although I'm unable to find one freely available.

To be able to help you, we need some more information, please.

Concentrating on one loco, which is giving you the restricted speed problem? If it's D7013, which version are you running - the original, Darwin's or Terry's? Running D7013 with consist D7013le on the Weston to Paddington path using Terry's parameters, I got to 51mph passing through Weston Milton and 90mph at Paxton and Worle (how fast would you like to go? :) )

If it's not D7013, please tell us which loco and path you are using; it's possible that the loco's .eng file will need tweaking for use with Open Rails.

Hi Graham,
As your 1st post quoted Paddington to Penzance, I'm assuming it is the supplied D7013_CB.

This is an engine file I've set up for that loco to run in openrails.

1- create a folder named Openrails and copy it into the D7013_CB folder.
2- copy the MSTS eng file : D7013_CB into the open rails folder and delete all of its contents.
3- Copy and paste the attached text into the openrails D7013_CB eng file

Create a consist with this loco (if not already done) and select it in open rails/explore route. The gearbox is set to 'auto'
It should now work but you must release the train brake and engine brake (; and [ keys) before trying to move off.

If you are still having problems with wheelslip you could try changing the adheasion line in the .eng file from Adheasion ( 0 1 0.236 0 ) to Adheasion ( 0.1 0.4 2 0 ) in both the MSTS.eng file and the OR copy . It may help.

Yes I think that I can see what has happened after taking a look at D7013 file on the route CD. I have copied the “Hymek”.cvf, (which is written as a common.cab .cvf), from out of D7013 CABVIEW folder and pasted it in a temporary folder labelled Hymek in a temporary location. The file TRAINS\TRAINSET\Common.cab\Hymek from the route CD was then opened and the file Hymek.cvf (not written as a common.cab file) renamed Hymekold, and then all of the contents were copied and pasted into the temporary folder “Hymek”. This folder was then copied and pasted into the common.cab folder within my own TRAINSET folder .
This then gave the command line Cabview ("..\\..\\common.cab\\Hymek\\Hymek.cvf" )
Any other loco using this Cabview could access this file directly in the common.cab folder and not need to refer to D7013’s CABVIEW folder.
I hope I have explained in some manner what I think I may have done and I apologise to yourself and anyone else who may have had difficulties trying to use the posted .eng file

I got the same problem as Graham when i tried the eng file with the automatic gear box.
