Re: Distant mountains again
Hi bigvern, im really looking forward to this NYMR route. When will this route be released? and can you upload a few screenshots of the route please.
Re: Distant mountains again
I'm hoping for late December, possibly early 2010. So far as 3D placement is concerned, Goathland to Pickering is just about done apart from Pickering itself which will probably take until this weekend. Grosmont to Goathland is about another week's work then all the signalling, speed limits and other interactives need to go in.chrisj2k9 wrote:Hi bigvern, im really looking forward to this NYMR route. Once the route enters the testing stage, I'll get some screenshots uploaded.

Re: Distant mountains again
Thanks for the info Darpor, I think I'll take that route then, convert the main TGA files I'm going to use and then continue the new Texture XML file with custom ones. Too bad there's not a way to mix and match with existing ones.

Bremen is right. This has very little to do with DM and it could fit a lot better in another dedicated discussion.bremen wrote:page 5.. the feast of the OT

Re: Distant mountains again
So no news in the update about this important subject.
Of course there will be another patch.... there is ever a new patch... annunced... like the one with the superelevation that the team was working on in May 2008

What about the fact that "distant mountains" is a feature of the "REAL WORLD"?
These ARE Distant Mountains

I'am a scientist and i was sure that the earth wasn't flat..
"The horizon (Ancient Greek ὁ ὁρίζων, /ho horídzôn/, from ὁρίζειν, "to limit") is the apparent line that separates earth from sky."
"the true horizon is obscured by trees, buildings, mountains, etc., and the resulting intersection of earth and sky is called the visible horizon."

I don't care to be a "pain in the ." (censored by the forum
) but after 2 years and 5 months i'm really tired of this atmosphere of uncertainty.
Uncertainty to see something i'm waiting till the first days...
Uncertainty about the important things...
Uncertainty is in the end a really bad thing.
The only things certain are the DLC.. but i don't care about them because i have no interest in English or American railroads.

Now i understand... "Distant Mountains" is a feature of MSTS so it is bad to use this term for RW that have none at all.RSDLadam wrote:Scenery beyond the horizon (the concept of 'distant mountains' is infact an MSTS feature, which has no bearing on RailWorks) appearing white is due to the setup of the fog in the chosen weather pattern. Some patterns have a hazy white fog added in the distance to blend between the ground and the sky on the horizon line.

YESSSSSSSSS
Before

Now

Is it better? YEaaahh it is.. except for the white mountains but i'll change the BP and i'll get rid of them
Now i can finally say:
Thanks RSC for this update...
Next step... a modification to the shader to have the terrain textures on the DM and some KMs more

Re: Distant mountains again
The above is caused by the update (from 5km to 8km max visual) and by a set of custom Seasons BP i have done for my route.
I have changed the color of the fog, from white to something better, but the monocolor terrain remains ugly..

Re: Distant mountains again
While the increased draw distance is welcome, as commented in the "Update" thread, I am quite relieved the detailed terrain draw distance has *not* been increased over the esxisting 2km. Until such time as RW incorporates a means of copying and pasting blended textures, extending the detail draw distance would put a helluva load more work on the route builder, time which is better spent getting the infrastructure and immediate surroundings right.
If RS.com ever do consider increasing the detailed distance then this needs to be controllable at the blueprint stage, i.e. the route builder can decide how far out he wishes to apply the detailed terrain. That would keep everyone happy.

Re: Distant mountains again
I know it is an old topic but i have to say something.
RW2.

RW3 MAX power. I have some other tricks to try to improve the results but as now i'm happy with the results.

Thank you for the Distant Mountains.
