Tornado
For those of you who don’t know, the Tornado is the first mainline steam locomotive to be built in Britain for almost 50 years. The vision and determination of the group of people who came together to achieve this feat is remarkable, as is the beauty of the engine they have created.
The Tornado travels around the country and generates a massively positive reaction wherever it goes. See http://www.a1steam.com for more details on this wonderful machine.
On a bright September morning Tom and Derek from the development team set off for a secret location in South East London where the Tornado was waiting for us. With the kind assistance of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, we were given private access to crawl/climb all over the locomotive to gather pictures from as many angles as possible.
Not only did we have access to the locomotives but we also had the chance to talk to Peter Neesam, one of the Tornado's engineers who has worked on the project for 7 years. His enthusiasm for the engine and project was clear as he chatted about its history and modern day mainline life. All reference material has now been passed onto the model builders with the view to a December release.

New RailWorks Features
As we emphasized when we released RailWorks, we envisaged it as a train simulation platform - over time, increasing in features and adapting to new technology.
So, alongside updates to scenario authoring, signal work and core code and graphic improvements we are looking to make use of the capabilities of Steam to provide a way of recording RailWorks achievements and also allow you to compare your performance with your friends and others among the wider community. This enhancement is a little more involved than it might first appear as we have to tweak/improve the scenario system to allow more exact required performance to be specified and then we have the challenge of producing a rational way of evaluating performance against the ideal.
We’d like to thank all of those who provided feedback on these proposed features - we are analysing all of this carefully. the team is already well on their way to implementing the initial version which will be tested over the coming weeks. Expect some exciting and challenging missions to measure your own train driving skills. Visit http://www.railsimulator.com for regular updates!
