Re: New Update 98.2c
After spending a few hours trying to recover from my RailworksProc.exe error on loading routes, I gave up trying to recover Railworks to a working state. It's now installed on my old laptop and there it will stay. The only problem I could find from various log files was that Netfx20sp1.exe was re-installed immediately after the update was downloaded. Although the report said it installed OK, another program I have installed that uses it did not work properly. I tried re-installing it myself but kept getting a "Setup failure". Looks as if an XP re-install is on the cards if I can't fix the problem. DMP file will be sent.

I tried that, did not work for me but thanks for the help anyway.choccy wrote:Have you installed the route specific track rules for SDB? It uses its own though will run of a sort without its track rules being downloaded.

I suppose the railworks proc error just happens (much) more in this route than on others.
I'll wait untill the reason for the proc error has been found.

Re: New Update 98.2c
That "sounds" like a hard disk and or Windows problem and it may be just a coincidence with regard to RW.markjudith wrote:Ah....spoke to soon............my pc has just died, now it just has a black screen saying boot from disc![]()

hi
i agree with john, it seems that something bad happens with your windows or your harddrive.
i didn't reinstall the game. i deleted my old maps and started a new one. my modifications are deleted since the update(weather blueprint, timeofday, new ground textures etc.) no problem, i will make some new blueprints.
after starting a new map everything works fine.

That's Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 -- why'd that get installed as part of RW update?! Or did I misunderstand?gopher wrote:The only problem I could find from various log files was that Netfx20sp1.exe was re-installed immediately after the update was downloaded. I have seen that message too after an update but do not know if any other programs are affected.Wikkus wrote:That's Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 -- why'd that get installed as part of RW update?! Re: New Update 98.2c
I've noticed steam re-installing .NET framework 2.0 after virtually every upgrade along with Direct x9. It always gives me palpitations. I think on one such occasion it quite probably trashed my laptop installation. RW won't run on my laptop now and Windows is definitely damaged. Since I've ordered Windows 7 I'm not seeking to repair it. Reinstalling RW on my laptop still results in it crashing perpetually. I just wish steam would evaporate!Wikkus wrote:That's Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 -- why'd that get installed as part of RW update?! Re: New Update 98.2c
Even if that did occur doesn't mean that it would change anything as both of those would run a check but then recognise that nothing needs to be updated ( unless it actually does ) and abort/finish as that is how they work. The only time I have seen it happen is when I have reinstalled RW but thus far never after a update to either Steam or RW. YMMV though.choccy wrote: I've noticed steam re-installing .NET framework 2.0 after virtually every upgrade along with Direct x9.

Re: New Update 98.2c
Didn't they tell us that Steam only modifies stuff under the steamapps folder?
Maybe it is an update of Steam itself that does this. Then RSC will say it is not their business and we will say we only tolerate this "interesting piece of software" because RSC don't give us a second option. Draw.

Re: New Update 98.2c
Nothing to really be shocked about... Most NEW games released will always ship with the latest DX9Redist (which is also downloadable directly from the Microsoft Download center), the DX9 setup programme will launch and will only copy files over if and only if your DX9 is out of date. Since the DX9 'Dev Kit' usually only gets updated in 3 monthly intervals it's possible that users will not manually download the Redist and as such new games that use features from the latest Redist won't work with anything older, hence the DX9 redist almost always running with a new game whether you've downloaded it via Steam OR bought it retail.Wikkus wrote:Wikkus wrote:That's Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 -- why'd that get installed as part of RW update?! In regards to .net SP2 framework 2.0 - it's out of date now. You only need to install .net 1.1 and .net 3.5sp1. .Net 3.5sp1 includes the 2.0 content (but doesn't contain 1.1 content). As such the .net 2.0 framework is only there for people whom have not upgraded to 3.5
Remember, a setup programme won't always install files to your computer - sometimes it'll only run and do a cursorary check of the files to see if everything is as it should, if it finds anything wrong then it'll "Repair" or copy over whats missing.
Steam is only as evil as you want to make it out to be.... For Reference I've been using Steam since July 13th 2004 and haven't had a single virus, trojan, malware, keylogger, etc installed by the programme, nor have I recieved anything via email / post from them without personal consent.

Which needs a little more investigation, methinks...gopher wrote:The only problem I could find from various log files was that Netfx20sp1.exe was re-installed immediately after the update was downloaded.
