This is quite unfear !

50% off RailWorks via Steam download (reactivated offer)

Grrrr

When I bougth (July 26) I didn't know the promotional offer was due and my VISA was charged for the full price 39.99 euro.
I was very disappointed but at the end the fault was mine non reading carefully all the info.

Now, less than 2 month later the offer comes again, and I got another promotional key.
I confess I'm not very happy of this.
Is there is any chance to get money back ?

Well, to be honest you missed the original offer, and as such at the time the price then reverted to full price. As these "promotions" do occur quite often on the Steam platform you had two options - Buy at the High price OR wait a few days / weeks / months to see if a "promotion" came up again as a weekend special (sometimes as much as 66% or 75% discount!!).

You took your choice to buy it at the higher price since you couldn't wait, and therefore had to pay the full RRP (Retail Recommended Price). So now, two months later the offer came back and you're obviously upset.

Taking this into account - If you were to have bought this in a shop for full price and then seeing it on 'sale' / in a 'Bargain Bin' would you pop into that shop and ask for a refund? I bet you'd try, but the store manager would probably laugh in your face for being cheeky. A retail shop wouldn't refund anybody the price difference when items suddenly go on sale.

Unfair? yes, but after all it's your choice when to buy a product and you either pay the price at the time to get it now or hope that the price drops some time in the future.

Think about the buyers whom bought the Foilage Pack / Wagon pack for Railsimulator... These are now distributed Free with Railworks (Foliage Pack) and bundled in with either the Class66 / Class08 addon packs - Are they moaning that they want a refund now? No, thought not...

Sorry if this sounds harsh / rude / abrasive / unacceptable to you - but sometimes you've got to be straight to the point, (okay, this was a rambling post to a degree) but if you think you're entitled to a refund of sorts be my guest to have a go and let us all know how you get on

Andy
you're rigth by all sides but ...
It was my first purchase on Steam. If i knew the offer was expired, I for sure have hold on.
Quite unfamiliar with the steam interface I didn't know at what point was the last way off.
With the purchase button I thought I was going to be redirected to some sort of online bank
to complete the purchase but ...bang .... money was out in one straight shot !
You can't compare this story with shops ...
If you like, before at least 7 days you can return the product and have money back.
I'd like to know how many happy customers like me are around.
Ok, 20 euro doesn't change at all my life but it hurts a litte bit to feel a ignorant donkey

It's mistakes we human beings learn from, not success. I am sure you will read everything carefully before buying anything on steam again.

Nevertheless, I understand how you feel perfectly.

I've seen similar offers occur on various bits of software that I've purchased over the years, games more so than anything. It's the nature of the beast. The only way to guarantee you'll get the cheapest price is by waiting for several years.

I don't understand the outrage.

Last week I went into my normal drug store and bought a box of Tylenol for regular price. This week the same box is now buy 1 get 1 free.

Should I be outraged? Of course not. Sales and promotional offers are just that and always completely random. Sure there are legitimate gripes about the RW and should be directed to RS.com but this random promotional offer is not one of them. These things happen all the time no matter what the business.

Hi
Yes the older versions are discounted , to shift them out of the way for the new version.
I wonder if this means Railworks 2 is on its way ..........

No, as has been said, Steam frequently offer discounts - usually they only last a weekend though. I was looking for a relatively old game recently, then I checked again on a Monday and found it had been on half price all weekend and I'd just missed it. Sighed slowly to myself and paid normal price :)

..it happens. :)

Steam is a download system, so there's no "stock" to get rid of in a sale is there? :)

What you might be seeing is the operation of classic economics supply/demand. Perhaps sale quantities have been less than expected, so the price is dropped to try and establish a better equilibrium. Of course, if sales had been much better than expected then you would probably see the price going up, and then people would have something to grumble about :-)

Hi Dave
That sounds very likely.
Its possible Steam charge RS a basic rate for distributing the title, whether they shift 1 or 1000.
RS are possibly loosing money hand over fist.

Yet strangely Microsoft have been having some some pre order sales/discounts recently for Win 7 where they claim the discount price will last a certain time or until supplies last for a non released product either bought at certain stores or via Microsoft's Digital Download store. :o

I read somewhere it was a set % of each sale.

This offer is aimed at registered RS users who have yet to upgrade to RW. It's not generally available on Steam.

No doubt if you wait long enough then RW will be discounted as games usually are. RS.com may choose to do this to stimulate add-on sales.

I know how you feel Ric - I brought the foliage pack only to have it offered to me for free a few months later - and that is in a sim they managed to con me into buying twice and are now not allowing me to use as I can't edit my route - the only reason I brought it a second time was because they discounted it - wouldn't have fallen for it otherwise ! And just where IS that editor bug fix - perhaps sidetracked with their efforts advertising all the freebies they are suddenly working on - what about a progress update somewhere about fixing the bug stopping us from editing anything ?

Apologies to all (RS.Com particularly I guess) for a rather acidic post but as a customer I am not a happy one at the moment ! :bad-words:
