Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
Thank you for all the comments and ideas, even the negative ones have a use so all good.
Nothing been said that we did not expect.
I understand the concerns about the impact on resources and priorities but we have to plan ahead.
We will be consulting with a wide range of users to get the best out of what we have suggested.
Thanks again, and keep them coming.
regards
Derek

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
I would like to see this implemented,i reckon it would give the game a new dimension, however at least a few of the problems need to be fixed first i beleive.
Cheers,
Mark

Lol, having working lights, (missing tail lights on 3 car consists and HST??) light beams, raindrops on the windscreen, cab sway, better two-tone horn system, i.e. seperate button for each horn, maybe these would give the "simulator" a new dimension.

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
Derek,
Having, in a previous post, expressed a lukewarm response to this idea, I would just like to add a couple of further thoughts in the light of reflection and comments made by others.
If a career progression mode could be made to simulate signing on for a day's duty and carrying out the rostered workings, as timetabled scenarios, for that duty, linked to accruing seniority, then maybe I would get interested. But, as I think someone else commented, it would surely need a considerable number of varied scenarios to make it work, and some sort of categorisation of them. I would be looking for realism and coherence in the scenarios, i.e. a reflection of a York based driver's typical working day/week, for example.
Thanks for taking the trouble to consult and listen on this.
Regards,
Andrew

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
Being pretty new to RW, I find compared with MSTS, trying to make scenarios is a nightmare, trying to add engines to routes is another and there are plenty more, these should all be sorted out before any other outside non-operational items are added. I have a number of friends, all FS9, FSX enthusiasts and MSTS users, who have all deleted RW from their computers, graphics are nice to look at, but the sim is to unfriendly to operate.
Make it an easy simulation to get into and operate, that will help swell the numbers using it, then think about the new proposals.
Pat.

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
I think it is very much easier to add locos and consists to RS/RW than in MSTS - http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 17&t=74885pdeee wrote

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
Hi Geoff,
I know where Pat is coming from - the problem is that it's not obvious in the slightest how to do it, I had been hoping that the much vaunted new detailed manuals for RailWorks would cover this basic task and I was disappointed that they don't. Once you actually know what to do, yes it is far easier, much more flexible and I certainly prefer it - the whole idea of Free Roam versus Explore the Route is superb, I know a number of people tried to experiment with the free roam idea in MSTS to varying degrees of success.
The number of times i've had to show people this most basic of actions, put simply, to put your chosen train in your chosen route at your chosen location going in your chosen way - if you don't know what you're doing it doesn't even look like it's possible, but once I give people a quick demo and show them, they usually love it.
Cheers
Matt.

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
I'm pleased with this its good and if it's like anything like OpenBVE I will look forward to this. But WHY won't Railworks implement things like DSD, DRA, TPWS, ETC.
I have wanted this for ages and properly other people so why hasn't my prayers been answered??? Kinda useless having this on one point its good because it will encourage players to play more but on the other hand it makes it like a game not a real simulation adding the stuff above will enhance the realism.
But thats my view.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
Right Matt, when are you next in Blaby to give me a demo.....................???
I suppose I found MSTS easy, because there were some good professional literature available, for scenario and route building Richard Garber and others.... I wonder why those authors do not produce for RW............

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
Pat,
Here's a quick video tutorial that I put together way way back when Rail Simulator first came out... basically the same idea in RailWorks.
http://www.uktrainsim.com/jw_flv_player/freeroam.html
Derek - I'll go re-read that section, i'm sure when I last read through them I didn't find what I was looking for - if I still don't i'll email you what I think is lacking, and otherwise I shall henceforth ensure I point people to the manual
Matt.

Re: Railworks Scoring and Career Mode
Ah I see - one major mental block people would have with it is that it's under the heading "creating your own scenarios" (or words to that effect) - and many people don't want to do that, they just want to do as they did in MSTS and explore-the-route with their nice shiny (or grubby) looking new engine. Part of it is getting over that mental hurdle that you have to go in and either create a new scenario OR edit the existing free roam.
Anyway... back on topic.

I think you are right in some respects with with a 'I just want to drive my train down the track' section.
