One should always take on-line polls with a grain of salt so to speak. All they really show is the number of people who are inclined to participate and interpolating any other meaning from them is not really valid as a measure of anything.

99.99% of people then are presumably simply Games Players, running ready made freeware and payware scenarios.
Just an observation.

Hi Ted

I had not voted as I have not been really sure that there are problems, but I would have voted now as there is at least one fault that I can replicate that is not present in the earlier version.

I have noticed considerable stuttering effects with RW recently but do not have sufficient evidence to attribute it with certainty to version 97.8a. At launch RW seemed to run more smoothly than RS, but my most recent comparison finds RS running more smoothly than RW. (This is not based on frame rate but visual experience as presently RW can display a high frame rate accompanied by poor running characteristics). I have used default scenarios for the comparison.

I found one of my scenarios (not a default scenario or route) crashed, with no error message, though it had previously run without any problems. I turned some of the settings down and the scenario then passed that point, though it now crashes to desktop further on, again with no error message. Lowering the options has not resulted in me progressing with this scenario. I do wonder whether RW is not currently loading the scenery and terrain as quickly as it should. I went past one point where on that tile no terrain was loaded and further up line a level crossing gate was missing. I examined both these points in the world editor and nothing was misssing. This is not something I have ever experienced previously either with RS or RW.

I cannot , with certainty, attribute these problems to 97.8a, but am very quizzical.

But I had a steam loading screen and it was Railworks update.
(I can read.. :D )
Once I could see no change in the version number ...

I once again loaded on CresstonV2, lots of trees planted, a 158 DMU complett compromised track.
No crash and everything runs like clockwork.
A still investigation ?
But I will go more testing.

If anyone wants to check what files may or may not have been updated have a look in the railworks folder for the modified date or do a search for modified files on today's date on that folder. I do know that the patch to fix the 97.8a problems is still in beta testing and wont be released until early next week assuming it passes testing.

My shunter scenario still doesn't work, so IF anything has been done, which I doubt, it hasn't fixed that particular problem.

Today was no Steam client update.
It was clearly a Railworks update.
I myself have read on the Steam Splshscreen top left and the failure to store or editor can suddenly change, I understand no more.
Have it tested a couple of times today.
It is indeed, not all users have received ... a kind of "beta".
Otherwise, a miracle must have happened, but I have not prayed to Lourdes.

Please do take extreme care while editing in RW in its current condition. Tonight I altered the position of a single signal link and saved. The route subsequently failed to load so I looked for the more normal tell tale 0kb file in the route's scenery folder. There was no such file but on examining my Networks folder I discovered that my tracks.bin file was 0kb. I did have an up to date backup, but if not all the track form the route would have been wiped out in but a second.

I think that those of us who are still route building in Rail Simulator are feeling a bit smug at the moment, (no problems at all) but I am still very confident that these problems with RailWorks will be sorted out eventually and then it is just a matter of converting the RS routes into RW format.
