You will be glad to know the guys have been looking into it this over the weekend and have found the problem.
Yay! Hope there was an adequate and varied supply of biscuits to aid with the process :D

I have just extended the poll for another few days.

The poll was posted on Friday night for 2 days. Many people may have been away over the weekend (as I was) and not had the chance to vote or add feedback. I do recognise the RS.COM have been working all weekend and have identified the problem and are working on getting a fix out there.

However, such a short duration poll is not really a fair test so I have reopened it.

Any complaints to another moderator please (as is usual procedure). I am comfortable with my actions and motives so sending PMs to me won't change them.

I would add that I have installed the patch and started RW but not ran more than 100 metres or so. I have had no problems but with such limited testing I am NOT voting.
Kindest regards

Much ado about nothing

Well, there's some people hooting and hollering in the US about this, but my "tuppence" worth;

1. If you don't hack routes this don't affect you,
2. If you do hack routes you should be making backups,
3. If you don't know how to make backups you shouldn't be hacking routes, go to http://www.dummies.com/store/Computers- ... ndows.html and buy the book for your operating system (for instance if you have Vista buy "Vista for dummies" don't buy the one for XP) and learn basic file management before you play with software editors.

From what I've seen, this does appear to affect mostly low tile numbers near the center of the route, so those who are several miles away from the zero zero tile probably won't be affected. Just in case, make more frequent backups as you go until the next patch comes out, but even after it's "safe" you should be making at least daily backups anyway. I see people talking about losing "months and months" of work, the checkpoint for making backups of your work is how much are you willing to do over again if something goes wrong? Whether it's an hour, a day, or a week that's how often you should be making backups.

One thing i've noticed after the update was that the hiss from applying the brakes would stay on for a long time, and would reset every time there was a clack/click sound from the track. Also engine noise would remain where your train was even after resetting a scenario.

Pretty much all the PC for Dummies books are good but one I bought for a friend who needed to upgrade his PC's power supply and graphics card was Upgrading and Fixing PCs for Dummies by Andy Rathbone. It helped someone who had never done any thing like that before and was unsure of doing it easily upgrade his PC.

Couldn't agree more, Jim. Anyone who chooses not to backup any computer system needs a check-up from the neck up. Plus, as I've said elsewhere on this forum, it's not exactly tricky these days, either. Storage is the cheapest it's ever been -- 1TB external drives for under £65 -- and with some of the solutions out there (for Windows, anyway), you need only install the software, plug it in and press a button. How much easier can it be?! And yet some people still don't do it

Hello all

Scenarios failing!
I have had quite a few problems in playing newly created scenarios post 97.8a update. I wonder if any one else has encountered the same issue yet. The scenario editor performs as it should, the game is saved by pressing play, and immediatly previewed to check for errors etc. I then flit back and forth between editor and save/play. This can go on until i am happy with the scenario and it is working fine with no conflicts etc. The problems arise when i wish to access the scenario from the the main menu Routes/Scenarios. It loads and then the system hangs telling me that something bad has happened to the program. The program hangs so badly it does not alow me to send a report. Initially i thought that there may be a conflict between the last update and a 3rd party add on but it also occurs with default only stock placed in a new scenario. All default scenarios work so far, well at least they start, dont have the time to complete them! There is dramatic stuttering now on one of the default Hedborough scenarios-Suprise Visit with my frame rates well over the average of 40. Tried it with graphical settings down to 1 and with frame rates over 90 average in most cases still stuttered badly. It reminded me of playing MSTS on full settings on Vista!
I must mention that all routes are untouched other than placing a new scenario icon on them since Saturday.

Thanks for listening

Hi,

It is a good idea to send a report to RSC support via email with as much detail as possible. The stuttering/slowdown problem may be fixed but you should mention it as well as it also occurs in the Delivery day scenario ( Bath to Templcombe route ) though of course that depends on what caused it.

There is a bug at the moment re the initialization of signals when you go to play the scenario from the editor, the solution is to exit to the menu after editing and then into playing the scenario.

I've just stumbled across a tile in the Bath Templecombe Route which is giving the same problems as widely reported on other routes.
The troublesome tile is -000012 -000022 at Shepton Mallet. If changes are made in the world editor I found RW crashed and, on examination, tile -000012 -000022 in the scenery folder was 0kb and caused the route to crash when I attempted to reload it. Once the 0kb tiles was replenished by a backup normal service was resumed.

I also have a cloned and much altered version of the aforementioned route. This route is also affected by this problem at the same location.
