Hope that helps,

Yes that would be ok if you are just replacing nvidia for nvidia but a lot of "experienced" users on hardware forums say that when going from one brand to the other ie nvidia to ATI in this case, you should clean the system of all traces of the old drivers from the OS. Some even go as far as reinstalling the OS. Now whether all this is overkill is perhaps up for discussion, maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

Why on earth are you using XP? Vista has much better memory management, and even it is outdated and the release version of Windows 7 will be out next month.

I have been using Windows 7 since the early betas, about 12 months now, and can assure you it works much better than XP ever did. XP was designed about 10 years ago for the PCs that were available then.

Yes I know I shouldnt be using XP. Am going to get Windows 7 when I it comes out. Does anyone have a link to where I could download windows 7 from? And if so what bit should I get 32 or 64?

I have just purchased the jubilee pack off steam and on the activity for the Oxford route was getting 14-30 then using the fictional uk activity I was having 45 both running max settings. I thought having spent 350 quid upgrading what allready was a good pc I would be running RW easily on max settings. Anyway have just reinstalled windows so going to see how that goes.

Thats a pretty good frame rate if you have it all turned up to max out quality for the oxford to paddington route with a steamer.

You can find out details on the Microsoft website. Note that they only recommend upgrading from Vista but if you have XP, then they recommend buying Windows 7 on a new computer or as a completely new installation.

Just to clarify this statement, you can not upgrade XP to Win 7, it must be a clean install. It is the only option offered if you have XP.

I don't believe Microsoft are offering the download anymore as we're getting pretty close to full release. Oh and with the Release Candidate I believe it will run until about March...I maybe wrong or MS may have changed this.

Anyway, in my view after using Win 7 RC for awhile its the best yet...And I recommend 64 bit, just in case you add more RAM or perhaps a program in a few years breaks the 4gb RAM limit.

Off course your CPU needs to be a 64 bit one. Though most if not all are now.

I upgraded to a Intel core 2 duo 3.0ghz E8400. I been thinking could it be the motherboard? Im running this motherboard here http://www.asrock.com/MB/overview.asp?M ... e1333-D667 R2.0. Thats a intel motherboard with a intel processor with a ati 4890 card.

I am not a expert on these things but It could be that the motherboard is holding back the new CPU if it is running at default settings ( based on the specs ) though it would also depend on what ddr2 memory and its speed you have in there as well.
