Error message
I cannot load any routes at the moment. When loading it stops and comes up with the following error message:
Error: not a serialized binary file
File: /API\core/cFxException.h
Line:113
Anyone know what causes this?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Re: Error message
I am not sure if this will solve it but you could try clearing the blueprint cache files.

Re: Error message
I've tried that but it makes no difference! Thanks for the suggestion though.

Re: Error message
Just found this in the FAQ's on the wiki:
'Q: “ERROR: Not a serialized file: ../API\core/…”
A: This error occurs when a file has become corrupted after editing it. This can happen if the game crashes when saving and the changes are not saved properly.
To resolve the issue, a backup of the route should be reinstated by first deleting the corrupted version and then installing the Backup via the Package Manager.'
Trouble is this is happening with all routes i try to open! Surely i don't have to re-install the whole game?! With my connection that could take a whole day!

Re: Error message
Have you tried "verify cache content" in Steam (or similar title)?
This is said to check your files for "corruption" (however that is defined) and loads only those from the server.
Should be a bit faster than the bad old full download.

Re: Error message
Next suggestion: Move all the routes which are not default routes to a safe place outside the RailWorks folder.
At least in KRS, the default routes had names with lots of 000000 in it while the other folders had random mixes of hexadecimal numbers as names.
You find them all in the Routes folder.
The theory behind this is that you installed or modified a third-party route (or one you created yourself) and the corruption is there. Then, of course, Steam does not detect it.

Re: Error message
Unfortunately that hasn't worked either. Has anyone else had this problem?
Re: Error message
Hello, yes I've had this message (and still have it) on one of my routes. I've tried restoring from a backup but that makes no difference. See http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 14&t=98139. I tried everything mentioned in the thread and sent a mail to rs.com but they wouldn't help as I had edited some of the default files - fair enough. The route (Doncaster to Peterborough) is now waiting for a rainy day before I go through all the files again to try and find the culprit.
I think the problem with my route is a route loading picture that I added, hence when clicking on the route name in the routes menu it crashes to desktop with that message, it doesn't even begin to load.

Re: Error message
Trouble is i'm getting this message whatever route i try and run! I've temporarily removed my own routes and other 3rd party ones and ran the steam cache verifying twice and it's made no difference! What on earth is wrong with it! I want to get the Jubilee and the Hall when its released but i'm stuck with a piece of software that won't work at all right now. Any other thoughts about how to solve this? Thanks in advance!

Re: Error message
I think your only option is to make a copy of the steamapps folder as backup and via the steam client delete all local content and then redownload the game and start a fresh. If you go down this path once you have a fresh install and confirmed it works make a backup of it so that you dont need to redownload in the future.92212 wrote: Any other thoughts about how to solve this? Re: Error message
An interesting observation this one. It seems that adding a loading screen in RailWorks prevented another route from working properly and this was fixed by re-referencing a default loading screen. The crash only happened on other people's computers and not on the source computer.I think the problem with my route is a route loading picture that I added, hence when clicking on the route name in the routes menu it crashes to desktop with that message, it doesn't even begin to load.
The new set up without a routes.xml file should be better and more reliable but perhaps there is still a small problem here.
I am copying the whole Steam folder as a backup when I know that the program is working correctly. Re-instatement should take about 15 minutes after deleting the whole faulty Steam folder or just the RailWorks folder could be replaced. Regular back-ups are required in order not to lose too much work.

Re: Error message
Thanks John. I feared that would be the only option. I've got to take my computer to someone with a fast connection. If only i had the disc version. Doh!!I think your only option is to make a copy of the steamapps folder as backup and via the steam client delete all local content and then redownload the game and start a fresh. Re: Error message
Once you have the new download working you could create your own install disk from the steam client so next time you can install from that if need be. Though I would also make a normal backup copy of the steamapps folder as well.92212 wrote: Thanks John. I feared that would be the only option.
