You can still buy this for RS from Just Trains ( boxed or download ) if it is of any interest. Then it is just a matter of transferring it over to RW

John
Thanks for the info, didn't consider that.
You would still need to have RS installed for this install ( and subsequent transfer ) to work at present as JT don't list it as being compatible ( ie. their installer ) as yet with RW.

John
I'd imagine it'll install fine via the legacy add-on button in RW, but I've not tried.

We'll be updating the Rascal & Cottonwood installer to work with RailWorks soon, which will be a free patch to download like our other compatibility updates have been. And to answer the question about the 3DTrains rural landscapes, yes we include that with the route.

To further clarify...

The R&C from Just Trains and Steam contain the low-res version of the Rural Landscapes package, but if you already own a copy of the hi-res version of Rural Landscapes, the Just Trains installer was specifically modified so as to not harm previous hi-res installs. I haven't yet confirmed the same for the Steam version, however.
Cheers!

You should check carefully what you get for your money. When I bought the RS version, I had to buy additional stuff like rural landscape and the foliage pack. Its a nice route, focusses mainly on shunting. There are quite a lot of scenarios included.

I payed fomallaboardrails.com for 15 U.S. Dollar Rascal & Cottenwood.

Steam Version for 22,99 Euro is only a low-res version (Rual-Landscape) of this?
What makes the difference to Allaboard.com direct?

Purchasing the pack was never mandatory - a freeware version existed for download that only required a forum registration.

Yes, I'm afraid so.

None really, except the All Aboard version requires that you download and install Rural Landscapes separately.
Cheers!

Hi Guys, so if I am to understand whats being said on here this route is the same route you can DL from allaboard at half the price? Without the hi res foilage pack? I have looked on Just Trains site and I found that the IOW route they offer seems to be the very route thats offered through steam right down to the scenarios. Is this correct? If it is so what about the class 66 and the Class 08?

Hi,

They are pretty much the same, the Just Trains addons are sold for Rail Simulator. The Addons sold through Steam are for RailWorks.
Think of it as different shops selling the same products.

Although just to clarify Derek's post slightly, we sell RailWorks compatible add-ons too (not only RS compatible ones) and will update the Rascal & Cottonwood produt at some point to be RW compatible (although as mentioned, I believe the legacy add-on button should let you install it anyway).

Hi Derek, thanks for clearing that up. Can I ask do you anticipate releasing more of JT's products through steam? I ask because I would not wish to purchase something from them, or another company, to find that it is later released through Steam, without some warning that this may be the case. I know some people don't like Steam and I didn't myself at first but I have grown to quite like it.

The version of R&C on Steam isn't the Just Trains one.

So I wonder what exactly are the differences between the one available for $15 from allaboard, the one available from JT for £14.66, and the one available through Steam from RSC presumably for £19.99? Which of these, given that they are different, represents the best value for me the punter?

Just to clear, to me the best value is the is about price versus quality and content.

AFAIK this route uses items from the freeware (lo-res) 3DTrains rural landscapes pack.
I'm thus hesitant to get this through Steam as I have the 3DTrains Hi-Res rural landscapes pack.
Will the Steam version overwrite these with the lo-res versions at each update?

Edit: too many "res"'s.

Unless RSC tell it not too, it may overwrite it. From what Rich Garber has said the Steam version has had some tweaks to the scenarios etc but if you want the cheapest option you would buy it from him and then get the 3Dtrains pack ( free or pay ) which is only a little bit more hassle or then JT ( disk or download ) and the Steam version. If you already have it there is no need to get it again and if you have the 3Dtrains pack ( payware ) I would not get the steam version unless RSC say that it wont overwrite it.
