Can get busy though when you are trying to top up the fire and the boiler whilst watching ahead for signals when in a busy area!!

Re: New DT release.
The MK1s are in the works, being updated and expanded. All purchasers of the original set will get an updated original set for free, and the option to buy the new coaches at a discount. Blood and Custard, as well as Chocolate and Cream will be included liveries on the new pack.
Re the Master Cutler headboard...yep, that's a mistake on our part, left over from some trials on another, slightly different loco. Said loco needs more work before it's done, but we aim to have it completed sooner rather than later. Can't say more than that at the moment, but hopefully you'll like that as much as this. Many thanks chaps,
Tor-K

At an utter tangent to the above and both showing my ignorance of such things and swerving the thread off-topic to boot, what was the maximum speed of the 2P? Can't imagine it was particularly high but would like to operate it in a realistic manner, i.e. in accordance with 1950s era BR ops. Can someone confirm, please? Unfitted freights were limited to what, 30mph? What about semi-fitted, fitted and passenger stock?
Cheers, Rik.

Re: New DT release.
2Ps were actually fairly fast, what with their large drivers. 80mph, I'd say, at a rough guess, for an upper limit. Unfitted freight depended on the type of traffic. Minerals were 25mph, lighter cargo 35mph. Semi-fitted ranged from 45-60mph. Class 4 and above ran at line speed, unless there were special circumstances. Remember, back then, short wheelbase wagons routinely ran at linespeed without any issues, as cyclic top was unknown until the 1960s.

Superb stuff, many thanks!
It's at times like these I wish there were some form of 'kudos' points system as there is on other boards -- definitely a "+1" to you, sir
Cheers, Rik.

Re: New DT release.
A little more operational rivet counting:
By the 1950s the S&D's LMS 2Ps were employed mainly as passenger train pilots, but were also scheduled for local passenger and ECS duties. In theory they were allowed 200 tons or 6 coaches unaided over the Mendips but their local passenger trains were typically 3 coaches of elderly SR stock, taking a leisurely 1hr 45mins all stations between Bath and Templecombe.
As pilots the 2P's generally worked between Bath and Evercreech Junction. On busy summer Saturdays there could be a queue of 2P's in the middle siding at Evercreech Junction awaiting pilot turns to Bath.
In 1955 the LMS 2Ps allocated to the S&D were:
Bath Green Park (71G): 40601, 40696-8, 40700
Templecombe (71H): 40563-4, 40568-9, 40634

It's a lovely model and for the money with 3 scenarios bundled it's a nice price too in my opinion.smarty2 wrote:Looks nice, even though i am not a kettle "fan" even so i may purchase it?
Me also, Mart but let's not distract them from getting the "Gold" version of the Whistler finished, first! What i am really looking forward to is the Class 20 and those gorgeous sounds! Keep up the good work DT!
Actually, whilst 'kettles' are not my first love, I'm eagerly anticipating the 9F, too, it's undoubtedly my favourite steam locomotive type and in my personal top 10 locomotives of all time. Another contender in that list, incidentally, are 'Coronation' class Pacifics {hint...hint}
Cheers, Rik.

Re: New DT release.
I'm showing my ignorance of diesels here, but is there going to be much demand for a Gold version of the Class 40 now that the Silver version has been aliased to the Class 37 sounds and cab?

Re: New DT release.
I would imagine so Longbow, since the cabs are significantly different and a whistler certainly doesnt sound like a tractor
It would be like giving A4 sounds for a hall

Re: New DT release.
The 40 aliased to the 37 certainly gives a reasonable cab view. However, the distinct sound of a 'whistler' is just awesome. Gold version definitely required!
The value of your investments may go up as well as down.

Re: New DT release.
Just wanted to add my voice to those in praise of the excellent pricing for this loco, well done DT.
