Why is my RW so slow?

Why is my RW so slow?
My Railworks program has become unbelievably slow and lags a lot since this morning. not sure how to check the framrate, but I am quite sure it would not be more than 10 at the moment. Usually, it runs as any normal program would, without being slow, without lagging. Is it possible that there is an overload of routes/assets? I have installed quite a lot recently, and I am worried this might be the case.
Any one care to help me bring this game back to normal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
edit: forgot to mention, the sounds are as normal, it is the picture that is the problem

Have you defragged your drive? I would recommend doing that at least once per week! Press ctrl + z to see your framerates also if you have anti virus running in the background that can cause slow up's, low memory also can cause poor performance.

Re: Why is my RW so slow?
Before i purchased a new nVidia graphics card my older one, 950 GTX, would have that problem with RailWorks. The frame rates would suddenly drop to 15 until i reinstalled the graphics drivers, it would then return to 40/45 and run well.msey0002 wrote:My Railworks program has become unbelievably slow and lags a lot since this morning. not sure how to check the framrate, but I am quite sure it would not be more than 10 at the moment. That no longer happens with my GTX 260.
Never did figure out why.
I do not know what graphics card you using but it could be the same problem. A reinstall of drivers might solve it.

Re: Why is my RW so slow?
Another option could be that you turned on logging (LogMate). That slows down the game, too, after a while into a run.
Are you 100% sure that you run the same scenarios as before, with the same graphics settings? Just a question ...
You might also want to search for "virtual memory" or "swapfile" or similar on these forums. A while ago, some people discussed something related to the memory being swapped out onto the disk and how you proceed to make sure that that file (the swapfile) is not at all fragmented.

Re: Why is my RW so slow?
I havent run the same scenario as before sine it was a new route. the one I am talking about is the paris route and the munich route. I tried smarty's danish scenario, and the same exact thing happened. however on default routes RW runs as normal. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Re: Why is my RW so slow?
Hi, to be fair my scenario is pretty resource intensive and could slow up pretty well in built up areas, i would get 15fps in cities and about 30 to 40 in the sticks. what are your system specs? And where do you get the Paris route from?
Also are you closing the start screen after starting RW's? I use freeram pro memory manager and i usualy minimize RW's then auto free my ram as Rw's is a greedy sod where ram is concerned, you may find it helpful to turn some of the sliders down to medium if you have them all set on high, i found it stopped the proc errors too, bonus.

Re: Why is my RW so slow?
hey bro I have 4GB RAM, and a 2.5GHz Core duo, so it's not too bad over all. My graphics cards is the weak point however, Intel 4500x, but it never gave me trouble on RW before, in fact it was pretty damn good. yes, i usually close the start up screen, and usually play in windowed mode, as I would have other work to complete, but only on the internet or MS Word or something like that, nothing which takes up too much RAM. I will try lowering the sliders how you said, however they never gave me any problems, but I will give it a shot. Does freeram pro manager make a difference, mate, is it any good?smarty2 wrote:Hi, to be fair my scenario is pretty resource intensive and could slow up pretty well in built up areas, i would get 15fps in cities and about 30 to 40 in the sticks. what are your system specs? cheers for your help
EDIT: lowered the sliders quite a lot, but it did not make a difference in the french and munich routes. also, when I press Ctrl + Z, the frame rates dont show up?

Oh, by the way, the Paris-Maubeuge route can be found here: http://www.railsim-fr.com/forum/index.php?act=downloads. You have to register though.

Re: Why is my RW so slow?
Thanks for that fella, well i have used freeram pro for years without issues and best of all it's free! I have to admit that the Munchen Stuttgart route is veeery heavy on system resources, i mean it's a beast! Sorry i meant shift + z

Re: Why is my RW so slow?
I do not have these routes, but from what I read about them, they both seem to be quite challenging. Big and detailed, that can challenge even a good computer if the authors don't put a lot of energy into optimisation. The professionals at RSC went some way to improve the default routes, so I guess there is serious potential but it sounds like hard work.
The other thing is that small errors that do not cause the route to crash will still cost performance. In KRS, there was one fence that had a typo in its definition file and every time it came into sight, KRS would start producing error messages about that.
This means that if you download 3rd party content, start it with LogMate switched on and see which error messages you get. (Do not bother with the tab "All" but look at the others, one by one. Not all you see is bad, but as soon as the word "blueprint" turns up, there is something wrong with some asset.)
Also, run RS_Tools on the routes and see what that produces.
