USA Research Trip Blog

Post by Sly401 »

Hi Guys,

Just a link to My Blog that documents my research trip over to the USA earlier this year.

http://ironhorsehouse.blogspot.com/2009 ... -this.html

Future blogs will cover some of the railroad sites I visited during my 3 week 3500 mile trek across the midwest.

I will post pics of some of the more interesting stuff, and one of them will in all probability be my next USA project,

Thanks for looking

Hi Chris

Yep a very good trip, and quite an eye opener.

Lots of interesting stuff, I bought back about 4500 images.. you would think that would keep me going for some time, but I am already planning the next one :D

thanks for looking

Hi Sly, sounds an interesting outing. I'm sure you've gathered lots to keep you busy during the winter months. No doubt searches for diagrams will be involved at some point. Will take a look at the blog and look forward to what transpires.

Cheers, BP

Sly - I gather from your blog that you intend to make your living from railsim work. Good luck with that; as your Challenger project shows, your work is now up there with the best. It's remakable how far you have come in 18 months!

Hi Sly

For many people, redundancy is something that is very hard to take but it your case it has opened up a brand new opportunity that you have grasped with both hands and not let go.

This leaves us stuck with you as a loco modeller :D but I am sure that we all look forward to your models well into the future and particularly those that emerge from this great American Adventure.

Good luck Paul.

I seriously wish you the best of luck with your new enterprise. The Challenger is certainly an excellent choice to show off what you learnt regarding gear motion etc and it should sell fine, which unfortunately must be remembered when you really try to make a living from it.

Now, lots of eyes are on you, but you already trained coping with the strain on that day when you made that Diesel shunter.

Hi Paul,

I can only second what Geoff has said. Having been made redundant twice in my life I know what it is like! First time round I followed my head and went back into the same type of job and industry, second time round I followed my heart, saw it as an opportunity as Geoff says, and have never regretted it since.

One suggestion though, when you need a break from loco building it might be worth having a quick look again at your station nameboard kit. I found it invaluable but, being non technical (and old!) a bit of a struggle and now use a combination of it together with some of the lessons learnt from Geoff's excellent tutorials on the subject. I know that many people would be happy to pay for a kit that does the lot!

Either way, best of luck, and I am sure your new career will be a great success, still impossible to believe that you have only been 'modelling' for 18 months!

Hi Nick , Geoff et al

Thanks for the support, and yes this time I have followed my heart not my head...

The Station Signs definately needs revisiting.. the ability to quickly and easily produce signs could make quite a difference to routes.

Cheers
