Newcastle to York "Modern" - now released

With the route now getting closer to a release, I thought I would inform you of another "feature" that will be included.
Normally, a platform will consist of one marker, lets take "York 3" as an example. This means that any AI workings will stop at the platform marker but at the furthest tip of the marker meaning that if it is a short consist like a 2 car DMU, it would look out of place. In this modernised version, each platform on the route will have multiple markers, for instance, York 3 will now have "York 3 HST Stop SB", "York 3 2 + 4 Car Stop" and "York 3 HST Stop NB". The NB & SB stand for Northbound and Southbound, meaning if bi-directional working is in place, the HST can be directed to stop at the appropriate end. It is obviously the same principle for the 2 + 4 Car Stop marker, this enables DMU's and 4,5 Car Voyagers to stop in a more central position within the platform to reflect real life situations. 2D Maps of this practice is shown below.
This, coupled with the inclusion of many more destination markers along the route will mean that scenario creators will have much more at their disposal and will be able to create more precise scenarios.

Darren,
Another thing that would be helpful for scenario creators is the availability of multiple Portals. As AI traffic puts a strain on processor resources, it's desirable to get them off a scenario's "to-do list" as soon as possible. In some scenarios I've created for the NY route, I've placed portals about every 8-10 miles on the mainline and lots more scattered about in sidings and other places.
So my request is that before you release your route, give scenario creators lots of options to unload AI traffic.
Thanks.

This is a great addition of how u managed it, it would also be nice to have like a 4a and 4b sort of effect for platforms.

That can be done kirkheath, I had already done that at Darlington with 4 & 4a and Mully has done it on his "Northern Lights" route as well. Trains stopping at the different platform markers can be seen in this video. Aplogies for the quality, it doesn't seem to have translated well at all, especially using an autumn evening setting.

Would it be better if the markers were named, Station/platform number/North,South,East West, number of cars. Just an idea then maybe all route makers could use the same?

I am open to suggestions mate, it will all depend on the location of course.

Hi Darren
I thought i would come and stick my oar in. As you have done extensive works to improve the route. One thing thats always been a little bit of an issue with all the routes is the ambient sounds that can be heard in and around the stations.
I think something like this
http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/ ... effect-wav (sorry this ones not english sounding). But i am sure something along these lines would bring the stations to life.
Regards
Simon

Thats a good idea Simon and something I have thought about. Unfortunately, it be out of the realms of my technical knowledge but I shall have a word about it.

Has anyone checked out the DB Schenker website? There's a news feature saying that DB Schenker has endorsed the governments plans to electrify the railways. Seems to have gone now, but i remember an artists impression of the future locos. It looked very similar or the same as the default German electric engine (cant remember what its called

).
Therefore, it soon may not look too out of place on Darren's route...
Regards
Chris
