Updates and Source files
For the second time in as many weeks an update has removed the files from my Source folder. The previous update removed everything including the folders, leaving an empty Source folder (default installation situation). Today the latest update succeeded in removing all of the files leaving the folder structure intact. The Preview function in the Asset Editor ceased to function after the earlier update, and that is still the same. As a result I am now carrying out my developer work in RailSim (RS), but, somehow I think not for long, too much trouble developing in one and then testing in the other.

Re: Updates and Source files
I really don't see why it should have done this, as this is your area that steam has no idea about. I had exactly the same update today, and this left all my source files intact.
Are you sure you haven't done a recent O/S System Restore to an earlier date recently? This would more likely do it.

Re: Updates and Source files
Hi,
It's not clear to me about the Source folder. From the first instalation of RailWorks, the Source folder is empty. What should I do? Do I have to copy and paste content of the Source folder from my old Rail Simulator or make the folder structure manually? Or something third?
Regards
Vlado

Re: Updates and Source files
Only for new items Vlado, or perhaps routemarkers you want to add to your route etc, etc. For you, though, perhaps it could be useful to have your engine(s) copied across from RS, and this would just be a matter of Copy & Paste the folders. They are used for nothing game orientated at all.vlado960 wrote:Hi,

I know not much help Johnny but I have never had any source files overwritten, must be something else going on somewhere
I will make a backup though, It could cost me many months work if I lost them,

Nononononononono....
Can we have a whip-round and get you insured, Sly? Y'know, an extra 1TB eSATA drive or something?
As a service to the community, like? ;p

Re: Updates and Source files
This sort of problem is only likely to affect people who actually have source files. I believe the standard installation of RW does not have even an empty source file folder so I guess most people are unaware of the problem anyway.

Re: Updates and Source files
It doesn't appear to be affecting everyone - I still have my source folders/files after the latest update.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558
Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Re: Updates and Source files
Same thing has happened to me. My source folder is completely empty after this latest update, (I didn't check after the previous one).

Re: Updates and Source files
I presume it's a permissions thing - depends on who you created the source folder as, as to whether the steam updater will be successful in eradicating it.... that's not too clever.

Re: Updates and Source files
Derek,
Is it time to review the need for Steam to touch anything other than the files that are the subject of the update? I seem to remember reading in the early days of the Steam debate that what Steam does during an update is down to the developer to specify rather than a hard wired feature of Steam itself.
