I did all of that, but nothing happens when I run RailDriverLauncher.exe . Isn't a window supposed to open or something like when I used it in MSTS1?
I also ran RDMWII.exe. In this case a RW icon appears in the taskbar. When I right click on it, and select Raildriver, a window opens momentarily, then disappears. I checked to make sure it wasn't hidden or minimized, but it's definitely disappeared.

Change it to: module C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\plugins\RailDriver.dll

Remove the shotcut on you deaktop to Raildriver
Then you open C:\Program Files\PI Engineering\RailDriver MWII
And rightclick and make a shortcut to desktop.
And now you can use the driver to Railwork but not to RailSim.

ok i got mine working but thats with the handles just doing anything they want????? seriously guys why the hell is it when i put the loco brake on it just goes on and then off randomly, then i applied throttle and took it off and then i find my self hammering through a red signal and 100% throttle and no way of stopping because the raildriver had some sort of "lag" on it.

i still dont get why the raildriver works soooooooo well with Trainz (you move a handle and it happens instantly) why is the support for the raildriver in railworks sooooooooo shocking? they have had 2 years to get it right?????????

IMHO this isn't RailWorks/RailSim's fault - having written my own driver, which works quite well and took me all of about 3 hours to write from start to finish (well, start to where I left it...) I can happily say that the API provided to RailDriver is quite excellent and there's really not much more they can do - at least not on the front of the controls.

As far as RailDriver, I have found that the analog controls are a bit flakey - there isn't that much resolution in them and you have to effectively lose some more of that in order to smooth out the flapping about of the controls. In mine i've opted to do a little smoothing but not much, so you get flapping but not too much and you still get a degree of precision in the controls.

Whenever I move my controls, the controls on the sim move exactly as required, there is no lag and there is no difficulty, it just works, definitely as well as it did the one time I tried it in Trainz.

It's my preferred way of driving the sim at the shows now.

I hope to get my driver out at some point, I have been given the all clear by RSC to do so. I developed it and had it working about 2 months before the official one was working, and indeed I also tried to help them get theirs working too but they had other issues in that application aside from anything relating to Rail Sim.

Just wanted to set the record straight on that one, the big delay and the resulting usability of the PI Eng. driver is nothing to do with anything RSC could have influenced, what they did was just fine and works great.

I have Raildriver working very well in RS and Railworks, using Vista 64 ( which it is not supposed to be compatible with, or at least it is not supported), but I would still be very keen to try out your driver, Matt.

The official RD software seems a bit flaky, with its install anomalies, the need to modify files...etc.

Hi Again,

i have now tried all the above and still no joy, what timescale will it be, Matt before you have your driver availble to download?

And could somebody confirm if they have got the PI driver working with XP Pro? if yes did they do anything different to the above notes? as it seams that only vista users have been successful

cheers to all.

Not sure yet, once I cool down a bit on the Joystick driver - which probably won't be too long now as that's getting quite advanced - then i'll get back and resurrect the Raildriver interface - there are a bunch of things i've learned doing the joystick driver that I can now feed in to the Raildriver one, particularly one lovely fix that explained why the one or two people I gave copies to a long while back could never get it working - that's all fixed now in the Joystick driver ;)

Not long, is the short answer :)

Hi Matt,
that's great news as i'm delaying using Railworks until my Raildriver operates the trains correctly, i've had this lovely new programme since the release and haven't even ran a train yet! but that's my choice, Raildriver or the new joystick device will make the game so much more realistic.

The Joystick interface is available to play with - download it from links in the forum for it (right at the bottom of the main list)

Hi Mick
Would you mind telling me how managed to get your raildriver to work?

I uninstalled my previous Raildriver software/drivers that worked with railsimulator, and installed the latest Railworks drivers from P I Enginering (red icon). My raildriver just sits on my desk as much use as a brick with knobs on!!.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks

Les

Like Marty my Raildriver works perfectly with all the locos I've tried it with.

I am using the "final" Rail Simulator software that PI released with the mods to the txt file as mentioned by others, and using the "expert" control option.

I couldn't get the "red" PI software to work at all, so went back to the older version.

I am using Vista 64 bit.

i have a feeling that only Vista is working with this driver as i have asked people with xp twice now to tell me if they have got it working and i see only Vista users being successful.

i'm going to wait for Matt's driver unless theres an XP user out there with a working Raildriver who would kindly tell me how they did it!

I have succeeded in getting RailDriver to work in XP. I followed the instructions in previous posts on this thread.
I downloaded the driver from PI Engineering following the link.
I amended the line towards the bottom of the Report config.
It still would not work
Then a few posts later I saw the instruction to delete the short cut on your desktop and install a susbstitute one
Hey presto I got the flash as the driver loaded and it now seems to work OK with Railwordks although I have not yet test every button but the main controls work OK.
