I can understand not all software needs/benefits from 64 bit code, but given that almost all new PCs come with 64bit Vista, new software would be tested on that architecture for compatibility.

I think 80% of my software is stil 32bit, but it works properly.

Marco,

32 bit > max. 3-plus memory (ram) to address
64 bit > a lot more
Theokus makes a good point, and just wanted to add that if you already have 4gb of Ram then Windows 32bit is not accessing more than 3.5 of that, so to even get full advantage out of 4gb 64 bit will be the way to go. As for programmers, that is there problem. Get with the program or someone else will.

Matt
PS I actually have a disk with vista 32 bit, but at the time I didn't have 4gb of RAM and drivers for 64 bit were almost non-existent, things are different now.

With Windows 7 RC it is the first time I use 64 bit.
I like it.
No probs at all. I remember Vista and drivers, o boy....

Sometimes (an other matter) I think wath's the use of a quad core cpu...

We're running off topic, but you're right.

As of today, multi-core CPUs are used mostly just to run multiple apps.

Even big software for chip making are not yet that good at parallel execution, and we're talking 100-grand-a-pop sw.

It's objectively much more complex though.

I also have that error. Since the RailWorksProc in ver. 1.0.0.0, I hope that this problem will be resolved very soon.

Am I getting mixed up here or is Railworksproc.exe version 1.0.0.0 but the actual sim is version 93.8c. Well it is on mine. Auto updates are on but nothing there , infact it says last update was March 1969.

BTW I uninstalled steam, reinstalled it on a different hardrive & re downloaded railworks................Still doesn't work though & now I have to download the other 6 Steam games again....bah.

Also has anyone heard from the dev team yet? I'm guessing they may be swamped a little so am not pestering them. :-?
Wales & Borders(BR) V3.1 status.

This proc error is basicly the application saying I've got something missing.
I basicly messed up my installation of RailWorks. Once reinstalled I was getting the proc error when loading scnairos, the odd thing was though if I tried a free rome i would get into the sim but the moment I tried to get in the cab i'd get the proc error.
After a while the cog's started turning in my wee head and I dicided to install the Phis X engine, Now dispite having it already installed with my 9800 GTX+ it seems RW really does need the included Phis X as now it works great plus My 9800 driver still see's it so all good.

Now the issue of .net for us vista users including us flash lot on 64bit .net ver 2 will not run and although steam installs it at first run it doesn't in stall not even a bit steam doesn't tell you that though so head over to microsoft and get .net 3.5 sp1
also get your self MDAC 2.8 .net is like java it runs code witch is in the form of buleprits and proxyxmls with RW. MDAC is kinda a go between for databases saying that it's not a must but can help. For our XP friends install .net that comes with you may already have ver 2 but there are so meny flavors.

Lastly again for us on vista although we have DX10 but we don't have the full hit of DX 9 so get it instlled.

So to cap

THE IMPORTANT BITfor those who need that qwick fix

XP install .net that is in the install folder
Install MDAC but not crusal
and instll the Phis X engine

Vista (and win7) download and install .net ver 3.5
install DX9
and the Phis X engine

I have done... and every version and update in between. Nothing works.

I've paid my hard earned for RS and RWs and politely emailed support asking for help; so could someone from Railworks please help us out?

I have got it working now!
Ageia is taken over by NVIDiA, so I have been looking at NVIDIA PhysX see http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_new.html.
Then I had done a driver update for my NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS and downloaded a demo "Crazy Machines 2", just to see of the PhysX works oke.
During instalation of that game there has been an update of directx something and now the screen test of RailWorks is working oke.

I hope this wil help you.

Re: RailWorksProc error SOLVED !

Post by JimmyKnopf »

Hooray, it works for me too !

First of all I installed the latest driver for my Geforce GT 8800 GTS from NVIDIA. There's already an option for PhysX included.

As it did not work (I tried a benchmark that I downloaded from NVIDIA) , I also tried to install the NVIDIA PhysX System Software: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.09.0428_whql.html
But without success, it did not install.

Then I deinstalled the PhysX drivers I already had (but didn't work) , and after that I was able to install the NVIDIA PhysX System Software.

So finally Railworks is running on my machine...

[Sarcasm mode ON]
And a big THANK YOU to the guys of Railworks for their great help and glorious support !!)

Given the problems people are having I thought it may be a good idea to post a link to the latest full Directx release

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

I would recommend that as part of the trouble shooting of this problem that users install this update to ensure that it isn't part of the problem. This download is the full install not the web install and so you need to run the program to extract it to a folder and then from that folder you need to run the DXsetup.exe file and it will update if necessary directx. This is for XP and Vista users.

Done everything up to this post, still NOTHING.

I also just installed to Vista SP2.

And at this point I'm furious that I did not receive even an acknowledgment of my email to support.
I was not expecting a solution, just an ack.

Yesterday I installed X-Plane and ran at first trial...

Very close to getting my money back.

Marco.

Vista also need directx updated if you haven't done it already. I also just want to check that you actually ran the DXsetup.exe from the extracted folder as running the download doesn't install dx.
