AP27: London - Brighton

I was tempted at getting this, but then I saw that the freeware third rail stock by Dave Brindley isn't being used, such as the 2HAP, the 4EPB and the 455/8, which make very good AI at the very least. At first I thought it was permissions, but then Richard has used the 317 in the past, so I'm kind of confused here. In my personal opinion, anything to put realistic stock out there, or did the 2HAP/4EPB not run on the L-B?

Any comments would be appreciated, I'm not familiar with third rail

I guess the HAPs and EPBs had been withdrawn by the time the scenarios are set?

Ah yes, I believe you are right, thanks Steve.

Out of interest, what other EMUs (if any) ran on the line during the period 1999-2005?

421s, possibly? 456, probably? Voyagers on XC?

319's, 456's (although don't think they'd do full Victoria to Brighton runs, could be wrong though), 421's and 423's, 455's, 460s (GatExpress) , 73 & Mk2, etc.. (before the 460 replaced them) Not exactly sure when the 460's came into use, but have seen on a couple of image sites that they were about in 2003.

The 319s did full Victoria to Brighton runs with Connex Express, and later on in 2007~ with Southern. 460s came into use around 2001 IIRC. You'd also see the Virgin XC 47+ Mk2 on the Brighton - Edinburgh run.

HI

The EPB units were withdrawn in 1995 and the HAPs were made into 4CAP units in the early 80's and they were mostly gone by 1992

In my opinion this scenario pack is phenomenal! How on earth Richard got all those AI trains into each scenario and for them to inter act as they do I just don't know. I get any number of SBHH's trying to create a simple scenario on L2B!
An absolute must buy! Thanks a million, Richard.

I am in the middle of doing a few FCC 377 scenarios.... 46 'SBHH' and counting! :D

The first is almost complete and is set in 2011. Not to hijack this thread or anything but I am now looking for a few testers. The scenario is based on the real world, with real world traffic and timetables, however it does require some payware DLC as well (fs ZCA + 66 + 170/1 DLC).

...oh and real world engineering and speed restrictions.

Don't forget the Dual Voltage 319's were also used on the Thameslink services between Brighton and Bedford, and later Rugby.

How did they get from Bedford to Rugby?

I think what he means is they were separate services. ;)
Wikipedia wrote:In 1997 a new service from Gatwick Airport to Rugby began, via the West Coast Main Line, using class 319 dual-voltage rolling stock. It was later curtailed to Watford Junction in the early 2000s, but extended southwards to Brighton.

Ah yes, that makes more sense... I was envisaging a "drag" to Bletchley and two reversals to get on to the WCML :-?

And to Bedford via Blackfrairs - this train also connected the two airports, Gatwick and Luton.
