Re: Package manager
Haven't tried installing anything but the packaging of .rwp's in preparation for putting together files for upload has been rather problematical of late. I've had to make two or three attempts on most ocassions as the packager stalls out towards the later stage of the process.
It would be an obvious temptation to wonder if SP1 has anything to do with this as I never encountered any issues with the packager prior to its release.
Oh and like others, I've also noticed a marked increase in the time it takes for the packager to refresh itself.

Re: Package manager
Yes this has also been happening to me lately and I have been having to force RW to shut down by using the Windows Task Manager and then starting it up again, sometimes two or three times in succession until it comes right.jevon wrote:Wondering if anyone else has seen this odd Package Manager behavior since the last RW update?
Three times out of four when I click "Install" I'm presented with a blank window and the entire RW Opener program freezes. Force quitting and repeating this a few times usually eventually allows me to navigate to the window where I can select the .rwp. Sometimes, however, I actually have to reboot the OS before I can get the PM to work properly.
Hitting the Refresh button, which I do each time I install something, doesn't prevent this from happening.

Re: Package manager
I'm doing ''Extract to...''. I'll just 'Extract Here' then.transadelaide wrote:What exactly are you doing when you extract the RWP? Are you right-clicking and selecting Extract Files..., Extract Here, Extract to "\" or something else?rgreenrail wrote:I actually have a problem with this, I try to extract the contents of the RWP to my Railworks folder, and it copies, but there's nothing there when I look, is it copying somewhere else?Darpor wrote:A piece of advice on how to speed it up would not be to use it at all. A program such as 7-Zip can actually open the .rwp file, from which you can just manually move the included folders into your Railworks install.
What might be easiest is to use Extract Here, and then copy into the Railworks folder.

Me too! I'm thinking it might be worth contacting RS Support. I'll let you know any feedback.Ajay1 wrote:Yes this has also been happening to me lately and I have been having to force RW to shut down by using the Windows Task Manager and then starting it up again, sometimes two or three times in succession until it comes right.jevon wrote:Wondering if anyone else has seen this odd Package Manager behavior since the last RW update?

Re: Package manager
I too have the very same issue. I am trying to install a package for the first time since the upgrade and I get the blank screen when clicking install.

Re: Package manager
Well, I got an answer from RS Support, and they cannot identify a problem in the programme! What they suggest is doing a complete re-install of RW from Steam. Personally, I can't see that it will make any difference since this only appears to have happened since their last update, and I was under the impression that doing a 'Verify of the game cache' on steam also restores any missing files, and I have done that this week anyway! Still, I will try and find the time this week-end, making sure I back up the Assets and Content files first!justgeoff wrote:Me too! I'm thinking it might be worth contacting RS Support. Thanks Geoff for taking the time to try and find out the problem with the package manager.

Re: Package manager
I also did a cache verify earlier this week due to a problem I discovered with the 4CIG. This of course did not fix that problem or the Package Manager issue.justgeoff wrote:Well, I got an answer from RS Support, and they cannot identify a problem in the programme! There's no way I'm doing a complete reinstall. This is just laughable. I'll hobble along with the PM until RSC gets enough additional complaints to warrant a serious investigation and eventually fixes the darn thing.

I've been getting this problem from the last update it worked fine before. But RSC will never admit it's them thats broke something. And I have just done a complete reinstall this week to try and fix this and it still does it.

Re: Package manager
It would be cool if you could send RSC this information about your complete re-install not fixing the issue. They really should know this. Maybe they'll stop suggesting their ridiculous non-solution.Merlin75 wrote:I've been getting this problem from the last update it worked fine before. Re: Package manager
For people who can understand symbolic links and the usefulness of them ( not least for swapping where steam thinks your RW install is ), I did find a solution to this:
- Dug up a backup of RW2
- Installed enough of it to run the packager into a folder - that's basically the exe, all the DLLs, and the languages folder ( and possibly plugins, I didn't test without it ).
- Added a symbolic link to my RW3 assets folder from there.
- Aimed steam at it. Make sure steam isn't set to auto-update!
- Ran the RW2 client; it refreshed my assets folder in about 30s(!), built my RWP quite happily. I obviously didn't install any pi files which is probably why it's so fast.
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

Re: Package manager
Strangely enough my Package Manager appears to be working a mite faster since the service pack update - wonder if anyone else is experiencing this or if it is my imagination (again!)

Re: Package manager
Completely the opposite here I think (although my problem at the moment is with "Packager").
In my case this has previously always worked correctly but now it often stalls right at the end when you are at the bit that tries to save the created file to your computer. Very frustrating.....particularly when you are trying to package up work so that you can send it to someone else for testing
