158 Standalone vs Settle & Carlisle

Post by TheJRB »

I'm interested in acquiring the 158 but I'm not sure whether to get it on its own or along with the Settle & Carlisle. Is it true that the standalone version hasn't yet been updated to TS2012 standards?

I suppose with the sale it's £6.49 on its own or £12.49 for the S&C...

The original RSDL Class 158 is compatible with TS2012 and works just fine, but you are right in saying it doesn't have the new TS2012 eye candy.

The version included in the Settle-Carlisle purchase does have those effects added, but I don't have it so I can't comment on whether the full variety of liveries are included.

The version in S&C does not have all of the liveries, only Northern as per what runs on the route. However, apart from the rain and lights, it is also a slightly refined model and has noticeable differences from the original. As well as that, the route itself would be well worth getting.

Yes, only Northern Rail is included with the S&C version, but you do get an awful lot of "bang for your buck" with that route imo

I wonder if a reskin pack could be made to add the RDSL skins to the SC model?

As the base model is fairly substantially different I believe, you would more likely be looking at a brand new set of reskins rather than a bit of .bin file hacking

Had someone show me the textures, not going to happen. Probably not that much work to port the sides of existing liveries but the ends are totally different, and you can't just reuse the RDSL textures anywhere.

I meant the same types of skins, but they would be new.

Well you could, if it was really worth it; there's only one type of roof in the S&C pack I think? I've painted 9 of the things now, I'm not sure I really want to go and redo all those...
