Re: Update announcement
There appears to be lots of 'traffic' on FarceBook about the uses for a Joypad.!
Presumeably RSC will be maiking Joypads available to registered users FOC?
Otherwise you will have simulator with functions original users (you know, those who have kept it going?!) cannot use without more expense.

Support for gamepad will benefit other players of games more then some others. For example those who can not use Keyboard and Mouse as easy or find it difficult to do so.
For myself i would hope that adding game pad support will enable RSC to finally add some things such as Track IR support which has been asked by the community for a long time as would make it a much more immersion 'Simulator' on standards to many others that are released. Even Euro Truck Sim' supports it. Such games that have recently added it is IL2 1946 a game that has its origins from 2001/2002.
Also i myself would have rather appreciated a comment like that via PM though.......

You are suggesting that adding the use of Joypad support means that other methods of control are removed? And because RSC are removing original control systems, they have to give out joypads to everyone free of charge?
Is it Silly Sunday again?

Re: Update announcement
No Darren - from the inferences on FarceBook from RSC the use of some new features (task list, way points, fuel) are enabled with the Joypad - there is no mention that they will be available otherwise??Darpor wrote:If I am reading this right.....Traveller54 wrote:There appears to be lots of 'traffic' on FarceBook about the uses for a Joypad.!

Ah ok, I guess we had better wait and see then.
If they cannot be controlled by normal means, ie the trusty old mouse, I shall personally buy you a joypad.

Re: Update announcement
Have some faith in RSC, they aren't going to drop support for 32bit systems anytime soon and they aren't going to make everyone use a joypad, communication isn't their strong point. Like me though, they aren't as daft as they look

Re: Update announcement
OK guys. Enough is enough.
The site's name is Facebook. If you can't refer to it by the correct name then don't bother posting. It is getting extremely repetitive to see the same few rubbishing it yet still poring over it for hints of what is coming.
By all means have a constructive discussion about why the potential use of joypads is going to bring about the end of simulation as we know it but do it in an adult manner and not with name calling like my neighbour's 5 year old daughter resorts to when she is having a tantrum.

From Facebook:
Tom Pallen: These new features are interesting. Will they also be usable via the standard F4 HUD, keyboard, and mouse?
Paul Jackson: @Tom yes I believe so. I will give it a try later tonight if I get the time and post again. (but its Sunday so family may say no;-)

Re: Update announcement
gotta admit, it does seem like it's becoming more of a game and less of a simulator to me..
Re: Update announcement
That trend started when RW3 came out. Paul Jackson was able to "re-release" RW2 with some changes to get sufficient cash and increased customers to acquire lines of credit. Now he has been very successful in his belief that the market for railroad software is the gaming world. The question that looms is how long can he keep people interested in the GAME if all they do is drive trains up and down tracks challenged only by schedules, signals and speed limits? Hopefully to stave off boredom he will add some of the elements that make railroading more of a challenge and go beyond just driving. That will possibly carry over to the simulation needs. Multiplayer with faulty AI is not going to retain customers. If that is fixed then everyone (both camps) wins. The question is - how long do you wait for the demands of the gaming customers to cause simulation features to emerge?y2flexy wrote:gotta admit, it does seem like it's becoming more of a game and less of a simulator to me..
