Hopefully not a sign that they'll 'dumb down' the game for X-Box/Playstation in the future....

That was my concern. There are 2 ways the product can go, more like a simulator (which most of us here would seemingly prefer) or more like a game.
No surprise really with Paul Jackson's background in the traditional gaming world that it seems to be the latter. Most developments in the sim over the last few years have been about increasing appeal to mainstream masses rather than creating and resolving hardcore simulation aspects.
Thing is, I find it hard to imagine anyone sticking with this game unless they're; 1. a train fan and 2. a simulator fan.
Seems strange to be targeting the Xbox gang when I would have thought hardcore simmers would make up the core of the userbase.

Adding another way of being able to control a train, where does that become RW trying to target the Xbox gang?

Hi,
When you buy a house, and you find the roof is leaking, do you. A:Fix the leak?. or B:Lay the carpets and install the furniture? At the moment RS.COM seem to be going for, B!
Look to the future by all means, but there is still a lot to fix in the present, cure the ills that have been with us for so long first.

Kev

I'm hoping for something sound related, I would love to hear sounds reflecting off surfaces, i.e retaining walls buildings etc.

Wouldn't have a clue. On previous page i've listed some simulators (Proper ones imo) that fully support game pad support and many others at the same time.

Who knows what else though will come from these announcements? The Controller is just one of many updates, RSC have said that. Who knows they might have many other proper simulation things included and when they next tell us something everyone will be praising them for it and then you get one person saying 'It better still work on my PC!'.
I'm sure if we really tear that trailer/sneak-peak apart we will see more than what the video was about. New features and maybe even some new stock etc.

hi, ...
Ego Killer Games for the gamepads are good.
So much has not a gamepad buttons to operate the locomotive so good.
So this is just another simple arcade controls.
Now I have no braces and no beanie .. because I need such a thing does not.
Perhaps they show the good news later.
yes even for advertising purposes better, they only last show.
For example:
64-bit code RW
Higher material and shader version.
DirectX11

Well it's good to see the feature list being improved, however as with most 'simmers' here I won't want to use my xbox controller to drive a train, I don't really drive that often anyway, but what does drive me insane is having people automatically assume on Facebook that because a picture of someone using a controller to drive a train is posted up, that they are using the xbox to play it, it really does show the lack of attentiveness of most followers on there.
However, as Ice pointed out, I would like to see some major software overhauls to bring visual features up to the standards of most next gen game engines.

I can't see the issue though :/ Lots off other simulators support game pads. Examples including DCS Flight sims, Armed Assault series (handy for tanks), All the IL2 series from 1946 (Wings of Prey is included) and many other games even FS 2004, FSX and MS Flight.
Chris
You can add Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty to the list as well

Xbox controller

bring it on as I just bought one

.
Doesn't matter what means of control they introduce, just as long as it is another option and not a replacement.
In terms of whether the game will progress to Xbox. If they're looking to release something like the Train Driver titles where you just load the disc and drive one of a selection of scenario's, then I can see that happening, why not? Again, just aslong as it is in conjunction with what we already have.
Another avenue to make money, they are a business after all.
More choices to the masses can't be a bad thing.

Could I just ask. I like look and feel of the new menu. That Number 9 Track map has never been that easy to navigate around and find stuff etc.
When will we have to do another back up of routets and assets ?
I guess just watch out fo FB updates for now?

If you had ropey carpets and furniture you'd fit them, and then be able to make a worthwhile claim on the insurance to buy decent stuff....

I would really like them to fix the SBHH which by consensus seems to be caused by a limitation on the assets a scenario can load.
Would allow us all to run far more routes/scenarios and not have to have multiple asset sets as one route after another falls over because you added something required by another route.
