Random loss of keyboard controls

Random loss of keyboard controls
Just completed "A Day Of Two Halves" (standard RSC scenario on Bath-Templecombe) - but was forced to complete it with the mouse, as the keyboard controls stopped working a little way outside Templecombe!
View keys, Pause etc all still worked - just lost the loco controls (reverser, regulator, brakes and cylinder cocks all definitely gone). I think I also lost some ambient sounds shortly beforehand as it was eerily quiet after I shut the regulator to coast into Templecombe.
Is this is common occurrence? Is there a known fix? I'm using a modified HUD if that makes any difference.
Thanks!

Re: Random loss of keyboard controls
I too have this issue. I emailed RSC about it who said they haven't had other reports and so they are unsure of what is causing it, send them an email and let them I'm not the only one
And for the record I don't have any mods or anything else installed other than the base game and a few DLC from Just Trains.

Re: Random loss of keyboard controls
hi, ...
RailWorks has, unfortunately, the habit often the keyboard buttons no longer able to drive. (by Scenario driving)
In order for the keys "1" "2" "3" "4" "5" and "9" are meant.
It is then only about F3 and the control console in the cab or the other views.
Sometimes, however, is the keyboard function keys back.
I can only confirm it.
Although I do not often go scenarios.
In my opinion this is a clear bug.

Re: Random loss of keyboard controls
I've usually found that this is associated with 'Jelly Cab'. Either the keyboard will stop responding and then a few minutes later the cab will start shaking (dials shaking are the initial tell tale signs) or it's the other way round. Only real fix, save where you are, and restart Railworks.
I don't think RSC will ever find the root cause of this problem as 'Jelly Cab' has existed for a long time now.

Re: Random loss of keyboard controls
Yep I have had keyboard lock up, mostly I find some of my keys stp working so I cant quit the game but some controls will still work. A bug with the game when it starts to crash I think. Luckily it does not happen too often
Re: Random loss of keyboard controls
Silly question but, Is everyone on this thread using the most up to date version of Railworks3?
Thing is, I used to get this quite frequently (I even started a thread similar to this one many months ago). But since the last core update from steam Railworks has been plain sailing.

To be a wee bit more serious, loss of keyboard/loss of sound has been an issue for a long time, it's affected those with high end machines as well as those with low spec PCs so seems to be one of those 'RW Quirks'. What you have running in the background can have an influence, if you have an anti-virus scanner set to automatically scan for instance; whilst this is running and using system resources you might get strange problems if you're playing the game at the same time. If you experience the problem every time in exactly the same place in the same scenario then it's possible to track down the cause, but it seems to be such a random affliction that sussing out the root cause is very difficult.
Re: Random loss of keyboard controls
It's an "old" issue.
Look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWsvkQCknKU
and this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGFn_uLyDZI (2. part downhills).
Not only the keycontrols are gone if this happens but also the train ist not more in one piece. Stoping the train, uncouple the loco and couple it again to the train, and you can go further for a few miles. RSC has no answer to that until today. So we have to deal with it the next years or decades.

Strange cos I reported it to them in February, along with jelly cab issues on Win XP 32 bit. Since installing Win 7 64 bit, no problems.ttjph wrote:whiterider wrote:I too have this issue. Re: Random loss of keyboard controls
I reported it way back when it was Railworks (the original, then reported again when it became Railworks 2). Currently, I have three main systems I use for Railworks. One system runs Windows 8 (not had the issue yet), Windows 7 (get the issue) both are 64 bit versions. I also have a Macbook Pro (get the issue) which I won in a competition.phil17 wrote:Strange cos I reported it to them in February, along with jelly cab issues on Win XP 32 bit. I've never had the jelly cab issue mind on any of my setups.

This is an intermittent fault which you have to exit the game to cure you
need to Save the Game, exit the Game and Steam then resume from the saved
game.
