Why would this occur ?
G'day !
I was just playing a route in the new London - Brighton route, which I find very entertaining. This was the scenario called "Purley Plougher" - driving a class 377 EMU in heavy snow. But something odd was occuring, and I have no idea how to fix it,and wondered if someone else was able to confirm this also, and might have a fix for it ?
The problem is that, although I stopped at most station for a certain distance, while not actually finishing the scenario yet, just when the car doors slammed shut, a dialogue popped up, telling me I'd failed to pick up passengers at such and such a station... for EVERY station I stopped at so far. Train stopped, doors opened, timer timed out, and doors shut, then the "failed to pick up passengers" dialogue appears. Beats me why this would happen. But I do recall seeing it come up once before, but I couldn't recall what route it happened on, sorry. So can someone give a possible reason for the mystery ? Would love to hear something, if possible, thanks.
Regards...

Re: Why would this occur ?
Are you sticking to the timetable? It seems the scenarios are timetabled were you have to get to a station before xx:xx
Re: Why would this occur ?
Hi ! Yes, a lot of scenarios ARE timetabled, I agree with you, and it's quite a challenge to get them completed. BUT - I can't quite see why it would tell you in a dialogue message, that you'd failed to pick up passengers at such-and-such a station, just because you were a little late, or even early, say ! If the doors opened after you stopped, and closed afterwards, then you moved off as per normal, then, for the life of me, I don't understand why it didn't say something different, like, say, "You were late arriving at XX Station" instead of "you failed to pick up passengers at XX station". Doesn't quite make sense to me. Sorry.connorurry wrote:Are you sticking to the timetable? It seems the scenarios are timetabled were you have to get to a station before xx:xx

Sure, I might not be the world's best timekeeper, but being late shouldn't count towards failing to pickup passengers at a a station you are timetabled to stop at... they'll board the train, regardless whether or not you're late by a minute or two, or even 30 seconds late. Still very odd, to me, at least. :/USRailFan wrote:You probably were too late.

Its the way RW works. Personally I think its ridiculous but there we go. If you are timetabled to arrive at 10:40 and you open the doors at 10:40:59 you pass, if you open them at 10:41:00 you fail.ka959 wrote:Sure, I might not be the world's best timekeeper, but being late shouldn't count towards failing to pickup passengers at a a station you are timetabled to stop at... they'll board the train, regardless whether or not you're late by a minute or two, or even 30 seconds late. Fail the Career Scenario perhaps, but the phrase "You have failed to pick up ....." is clearly a wrong statement to make, because you clearly did pick up, albeit late!!

I thought it was because the passengers de-materialize into sub-atomic dust rather than actually getting on the train!?

It's the other way around actually. You will just lose points for a Career Scenario (just as your employer would have to pay compensation for delays caused to other operators or call taxis for passengers who miss a connection) but for a Timetabled Scenario where the objective is to meet the timetable you will quite rightfully fail.Basherz wrote:Fail the Career Scenario perhaps, but the phrase "You have failed to pick up ....." is clearly a wrong statement to make, because you clearly did pick up, albeit late!!

No problem with the failing the scenario part, it's just the stupid use of the phrase "You failed to pick up passengers!" why not just say you are late, totally ruins the immersion for me, it's just not realistic.

Re: Why would this occur ?
I agree, all it would need is the words "on time" to be added to that phrase.davejc64 wrote:No problem with the failing the scenario part, it's just the stupid use of the phrase "You failed to pick up passengers!" why not just say you are late,
This is getting a bit ridiculous though. I suggest you either toughen up, stop reading the scenario reports, edit the scenarios or find a less stressful hobby if a simple line of text is sufficient to ruin the whole experience.totally ruins the immersion for me, it's just not realistic.

Well perhaps I am being ridiculous, sorry if I can't meet your requirements for playing the game.transadelaide wrote:This is getting a bit ridiculous though. Just my suggestion that you should focus on the bits of the experience that do work for you, no need to go all passive-agressive on us.

We can't all be perfect, I guess.
