I dont think this would be the best way to influence RSC to get this update put through, they might see it as a challenge rather than a request. Perhaps a facebook group, where people are encouraged to sign a petition which will then be sent to RSC to request the update? at least with a facebook group, or a petition, they can see exactly how many people are truley interested in getting a patch put through as apose to lots of emails.
