The sounds are the same as the default CIG. Hopefully AP will update their 421 CIG sound pack to include the 4VEP.

Don't fully understand what you mean about the cab but all slam doors (411,2nd gen 421,423 etc) typically had the same cab layout:

Excuse my ignorance -- I never was a fan of Southern stuff  -- but why would they be any different? Isn't it essentially the same thing, i.e. a Mk1-based unit with some EE507 traction-motors added...?
Hopefully AP will update their 421 CIG sound pack to include the 4VEP.
Would be logical in light of my earlier suspicion

I don't know why the sounds would be different. I had a feeling RSC would recycle the 4CIG sounds...
Slam doors are, as you stated Rik, based on Mk1's with traction motors added. This was the same for the other slam door stock (except the thumpers I think)

Weren't some of the latest Slam-door EMUs (312s, IIRC) based on the Mk2?

I think the 423's designed for outer suburban services rather than express services which meant the layout was different. I think every other aspect was the same especially with the standardisation particularly on the Southern Region I would expect the cab layout to be pretty similar if not identical.

CIG's and VEP's used to make up sets aswell so they were essentially the same.

The differences were mostly layout and windows.

I don't remember much significant differences between them with regards to sound, As you say they're a Mk1 shell with a Traction motor strapped to them, If i'm right in thinking the Class 442 and 455 also share these similar sounds, not sure about the 313's and 508's, but they do share the hum and ricketyness of the slammers.

It would be an interesting train to have in a scenario, as i already have the CIG i might wait awhile.

Its great that they've made it aswell as the CIG though as it means that they will blend together well in scenarios.

I'm hoping they can make a CEP aswell which would be great for any future Southern Region routes.

What I meant was have the cab or sounds been improved in any way i.e better track sounds, 360 deg cab, slight customisation?? I'm just looking for any snippet of detail that makes it different to the 4cig that would make it worthwhile forking out 12 quid for.

Don't the 442s have old traction motors salvaged from the units they replaced?

Yes, the 442s are recycled REPs, drivetrain wise. AC units had GEC motors as far as I remember/know, they sound like the 325, a lot more high pitched than DC units.
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

Yes, from the 4-REPs, which made for some odd combinations of 4TCs, bits of 4-REP, and Class 73s whilst the REP power cars were being stripped of the parts to build the 442s!

I suppose if it was high pitched on a 442 (I've only ever heard one going past at speed or at Brighton station) then i geuss it was mainly the compressor equipment that was salvaged. As it has the trademark compressor sound.

Incidently i've just noticed that 4 REP's we're originally classified 441, didn't know that before :)

*Incase it seems we're going off topic i think that it seems there is interest in a 4 REP :)

As I have the Cig I will not be rushing to purchase this at the moment.
Just noticed AP have updated the Cig sounds to work with the Vep, fast work Richard.
