Exact same card as im using....

Frame rates are smooth.......Most settings on high......passenger on low...water on medium.....NO SHADOWS....it will run with shadows turned on , but you have to have settings set to high or highest, otherwise the shadows flicker
but the FPS hit is HUGE....

More that happy with this card , will run WCML & Woodhead no bother, However it all depends on your other components..
Im using an Asus MB 8 Gb Ram Intel i5 OC to 4.2 and i use a dedicated SSD Drive for RW only.....and my opinion is that these things make the game a lot smoother, and the game and scenarios load a lot quicker than using
a normal sata hard drive....

RW is a strange beast when it comes to graphic performance, (game code , dx9 etc etc but i wont go into that )....

The xfx 6870 will run any other game maxed out and not even struggle, ( well it has/does for me )
The Nvidia camp will i expect have something to say , but for me , The XFX 6870 was an excellent purchase.
Hope that helps
Brian

I can't comment on that particular card but I've been very impressed with the 2GB model of the HD 6950 I purchased a couple of months ago for around £170. The extra GB of graphics memory seems to make quite a big difference and may well be why I get better performance in RW with most options set to high / highest (Edit: TSX mode, with shadows on high) than others do with similarly modest systems:

Might be worth having a look around to see if you can find it for a decent price, I bought mine from ebuyer.com but it's currently on sale there for £200 :-?

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93Ghz - overclocked to 3.2Ghz
Motherboard: ASUS P5KPL-AM IN/GB
PSU: 600W Be Quiet! Straight Power E8
Memory: 4Gb DDR2 @ 366Mhz
GPU: HIS Radeon HD 6950 with 2Gb GDDR5 memory.
Sound: SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit PCI card (getting on a bit but perfectly clear sound)

OOhhh 2 GB Might have a look at one of those......it would be nice to run with shadows on high and get the full effect...

Thanks jivebunny, any news on release date of your extended route, ?

Thing is, I'm running everything on full ( bar AA - MSAAx4 is the only one I can stand ) on my relatively ancient 4890 - fps suffers somewhat in busy areas, but turning shadows off there didn't seem to make any difference anyway. RW really is an odd beast.

Still can't pick a new card, I guess I can wait a bit longer...

Yep, my ancient 4870x2 is running it pretty well with everything maxed also, it keeps my office nice and toasty too...

Hello,

I recommend to not buy a new graphics card only for RW3. This application uses primarily CPU.
I recently buy a GTX560 2gb card and I have the same fps that with my old card.

The rest of games improved too much but not this One. For this I recommend buy a new graphics card if you want mote improvements for others applications, but not for this one.

Maybe in RW4...

Regards.

It certainly does use a lot of CPU, but it all depends what card you already have whether it is worth upgrading or not.

For what its worth I just did a complete upgrade on my machine (was previously a single core socket 939 Athlon 64 with AGP HD 3650) to a core i3 2120 and an HD 7770, and I'm pretty pleased with the results - I get about 20fps on the NEC & hard bits of the WCML, and 40-50fps at the start of Autumn leaves. This is at 1280x1024, AA set to the third notch from the left (4x MLAA I think) TSX on and in-game settings set to high (including high shadows). This is a lot better than I was getting with TSX off and no shadows on the old machine, so I'm happy.
