The K27 is made available as freeware as a stop-gap loco until I build, or complete, a purpose built K36 - this is quite a way off yet, but the loco will be a shared production between Rick and me. I believe all the assets are free, it's the route you are donating for, with all monies raised going to the RR towards preservation projects as decided by them. All participating asset makers are freely donating their time and effort to the project.
The route project not fully scenicked, therefore is open-ended, with future community particpation deciding the end result.
By donating and downloading these are the clear conditions of use you accept.
When downloading, as always, please be patient - the Ring of Bandwidth binds us all!!!

Just unzipping and installing now. Had a warning flash up in Package Manager about a zero byte file in scenarios bin so it may be necessary to hunt that down and delete before running the route.
I think we all appreciate this is being done for charity but money is changing hands and it's in the best interests of the cause that the download arrangements are robust with arrangements made to extend the download availability if people have problems, most DLC offers the chance to re-download or in the case of DT pay a small sum to "cloud" your files on their server.
Anyhow install now completed, let's kill the zero byte file and see what happens...

RW tools couldn't find the zero byte file. False positive, maybe. Anyhow up and running okay, first order of business being to set up a single scenario to do the whole line, at present just cleared Durango City Limits but looking good so far.

My download keeps stopping. I've still got 10 hours left on my link so I'll give it a try when I get up for cricket.

Hi, I purchased the route last night at 12pm GMT and tried to download 3 times all failed . I tried again this morning at 8am GMT which was within the 12 hour download limit only to find the download link had expired.
I have sent an email to support at Gtrax . Anyone else had download problems?

Just a couple of minor observations following on from last night...
I couldn't get the passenger pick up on the left hand side track at Durango to work. Tried drawing forward and setting back but no "sweet spot" (unless it's the coaches). Will see how I get on at the other locations.
In line with the prototype the route appears to be unsignalled, but this will make it virtually impossible to have AI traffic, particularly trains running in the opposite direction. Railworks simply can't "do" train order despatching, there is no way to issue commands to other trains on the move in the role of dispatcher. There are too many variables running RW to depend on a train being where it says in the timetable. On the MSTS version of the route, I believe signals were placed but lowered under the terrain. I think this is a compromise it would be worth looking at for future versions.
Re the download issues, as Gtrax have gone through Steam previously, would it not be better to draw up an agreement with RSC which allows the route to be sold in a similar manner to Phorum Peninsula? That would solve the distribution issues at a stroke and ensure users have the add-on clouded if future re-download required.

I think "scripted" free roams may be the way to go with a "One engine in steam" policy and have the player hop between different services perhaps.
Haven't got the route yet as GTrax have temporarily suspended new orders due to volume of traffic

Well I've just driven the Animas Canyon section - admittedly a tad faster than the posted 5 MPH for 2 miles (!) - and wow, what can I say. Regardless of any of the other issues we've probably seen nothing like this in Railworks to date - a real visual treat.

Last night, I had a discussion with Rick and I suggested to him that instead of a K36 Mikado meantime, I'd like to do a C18 Consolidation (2-8-0) road number 315 This locomotive recently underwent a major preservation overhaul and now running on the D&S with a D&RGW scheme. The overhaul was fully documented in a book simply titled "Locomotive 315" and it includes photos and plans of said loco. (The figure 18 in C18 refers to 18,000 lbs tractive effort.)
Here is a video clip of 315 at the D&S, she's experiencing a problem moving the train around a fairly sharpish curve in the yard, but it gives us a chance to have a good look at her in close action.
