RIP Alan Pegler - Saviour of 4472 "Flying Scotsman"

Post by rhysicus1989 »

Unconfirmed as yet, but the news is that Alan Pegler, Saviour of 4472 "Flying Scotsman" has passed away, Aged 91. I have yet to find a confirmed report about this, but facebook has already started showing remembrance messages.

I am sure when Flying Scotsman is in steam again, they will run a special train in his memory.

I have seen this sad news confirmed.

He died yesterday (18th March) after a short illness. He was age 91.

As well as the Flying Scotsman he was also very closely associated with the Ffestiniog Railway and it was his intervention, in 1954, that made the restoration of the Festiniog railway possible.

He was, both the president of the Ffestiniog railway company and the Ffestiniog Railway Society.
