What's this light?

Post by matt1314 »

Hi everyone!

I drove the "I've never had a night like this" (or something like that) scenario on the Woodhead Route and noticed a strange light shining on the roof of the engine. It shines all the way and there's no moon at the sky. I'm using the Lighting Effects Enhancement Pack by AP. Sometimes it disappeared when I stopped at a station. But then it appeared again and to the end of the scenario it disappeared completely.

The screens are taken in a tunnel so that you see the light. And why does it actually shine in the tunnel?

Would be nice if someone could help me. :)

Is it not the pantograph arc light? (if the 76/77 has it - I don't own Woodhead).

But why would the pantograph have a light? It's not the small flashing light if you mean that. The light is constantly there but sometimes disappears.

Nope I didn't. I would have to reinstall RW3 in order to remove it since I didn't make backups because I liked the dark nights when I saw the screenshots of the pack. Does it have something to do with that?

I've no idea, but from your post it's the only 'non-standard' addition that could be relevant.

Copy your existing installation to somewhere safe, log into steam and verify the game files which in theory will remove the lighting pack, and give it a whirl. If the verify doesn't remove the AP pack look in 'Add/Remove programs' in Control Panel.
If you still get the odd lighting with the pack removed and want to go back to how it was, just copy your older installation over the verified one.

I thought the AP lighting pack had a function/patch included to switch it off without having to reinstall your whole RW. I don't know as I don't have the pack myself, but that's what I have gathered from some of Richard's posts on the subject.

I'm pretty sure the ventilation shafts are mimicked by having a light hang from the roof in the tunnel. Given alpha settings on all things RSC and Kuju *pass my shades* it could just be reflected light.

I doubt the AP mod is relevant as it just changes the weather and time settings (but very well done, I wouldn't be without it).

One of those RW issues where turning off the AI fireman fixes it
