Köln-Düsseldorf for Train Simulator 2012

Hi all,
Just been taking a look and saw on RSCs Facebook about yet another new route!
I did some digging and found that a route that involves Köln is in fact in progress! I then remember seeing a route on Aerosoft when I bought WoS 3 to do with Köln-Düsseldorf and here we are with screenshots from it on RSCs Facebook!
I then realised how the Aerosoft date of release now states 22nd March, whereas it used to say nothing. It also now has a packshot which isn't very likely when something isn't near release!
Looks like we are finally getting a nice German route.
Has anybody ever travelled on this route and is it high speed. I know the ICE uses it, but that doesn't mean anything!
Looks great, and like the developer has took quite a lot of time making it!
Thanks,
Jason

According to google maps, the most direct route by car is 36.5km, so about 22.6 miles. The next ICE according to DB is scheduled to make the journey in 24 minutes.
Thus, bit of maths -
Average Speed = Distance/Time
So - 24 minutes into hours is 0.376 666 666 67
and 36.5km into miles is 22.680 048 517
Therefore, if my calculations are correct, the average speed of the ICE between Koln and Dusseldorf is 60mph.[/quote]
This is based on route directions, so the train would be more direct.

I'd always assumed your username was the unit number of a favourite Voyager!

Sorry, if you think I'm being rude, but, there are several threads already opened for this particular route, amongst others, and a simple search would have told you all to need to know in a matter of seconds to which you could have contributed.

The "Ihr Fahrplan" booklet that DB distributes in its ICE/IC/EC trains says it's 42 km from DDorf to Cologne. The BR 403/406 ICE 3 takes 21 minutes to travel that distance. The double track mainline has a section with a 200 km/h speed limit outside the urban areas. Inside the urban areas the speed quickly drops to 120 - 80 or even 40 km/h across the bridge. Along side the mainline is a part single, part double track line for the S-Bahn and other local trains.

So this will be released by RS.com through Steam, or?

Definitely to be released by Aerosoft for direct purchase from their site, yet to see any word either way on RS.com/Steam doing distribution alongside Aerosoft.
It's worthy to note that Aerosoft's "official partner" status muddies the water a little. Just because there's a photo of it on a RS.com computer doesn't mean anything when it comes to RS.com/Steam distribution, it could just mean they have agreed to give it a final check before release.

Thanks for pointing this out, I normally just check the first two or three pages - keep forgetting the search is indeed there!
Thanks for all the information about the route and speeds etc.
I too would have thought 220389 would've been a Vomiter, but Happy Birthday for 20 days
As there was someone else (MisterWho) who doesn't seem to like the fact I forgot to mention that some freeware routes are indeed nice routes to use. I didn't mean any harm to any other developers out there who may be put down by my statement!

Judging by the recent post on Facebook by RS.com it looks more and more like this will (also) be released by RS.com through Steam. If so, it is an excellent idea, considering the criticism they receive for being 'too UK centric' or even 'too USA centric'. Personally I think they should try to get the Simtrain Swiss route on Steam as well, to broaden the Coninental Europe appeal even further.

No, there are still a few trains on the network that offer both enough seats for the number of passengers using them and leg room for people taller than 3'6"

No, but the British have!
It's their insanely small loading gauge that's the problem. It forces them to have cramped carriage interiors, a constant compromise between seat size and seat numbers, denies them proper freight locos and a genuinely useful connection to Europe.
