Working for the company in question, I can say that we don't do that. We have certainly asked people who are developing stuff what their plans are for release once the item is complete, and in some cases the answer has been that the developer wants it to be freeware, which is great and we fully support and understand that. In the vast majority of cases though developers introduce themselves to us, more often than not off the back of a recommendation from another developer that has already released products with us or from being an existing loyal Just Trains customer and having experienced the quality of products and service and wanting the same for their add-on that they have lovingly developed over hundreds or thousands of hours.

I think as has been suggested by the moderators though, it's time to move on and return back to the subject of the topic. Please discuss with the moderators via the appropriate methods if you feel otherwise.

Anyone feeling brave feel free to keep posting and see where that leads. We have had a fairly outrageous claim and a rebuttal from the publisher. That is where it ends.

Being totally unfamiliar with the line, what's the typical speed limits on it? How steep are the gradients? I suddenly had the thought of taking the A1 Tornado for a thrash much in the style of the historical ECML vs WCML races!

I have driven the BVE version of part of the route, that has lots of speed restriction changes and a few gradients to keep you on your toes. I recall maximum linespeed as being around 90 MPH but as I've yet to reinstall BVE I can't confirm exactly. However likely to be very challenging and fun!

I think you might be right Vern, although I do recall there were maybe HST specific boards of 100mph. I do remember lots of twists, turns and tunnels though.

I know it's 50mph over the Forth Bridge. Will dig my Scottish Sectional Appendix out in the morning and have a closer look.

There are plenty of speed restrictions on the route, with speeds of 40 or below in several locations where there is quite sharp curves and also restrictions across the 2 major river crossings. The maximum speed is 90 from outside Haymarket to just south of Dalmeny. Once into Fife it's a succesion of 50/65/75/85 limits. The real route has differential speeds for HST's allowing them to travel faster.
The southbound climb to the Forth Bridge is a stiff one at 1 in 70 for nearly 2 miles. The start out of Dundee to cross the Tay isn't easy either, with gradients of 1 in66/1 in 74/1 in 114 out onto the Tay Bridge.

Yes lots of speed variations and twisty bits so no nodding off when you get the route! Also a climb on approaches to Forth Bridge and between Dundee and Leuchars

Edinburgh - Aberdeen yes, and as previously stated, no time for falling asleep, plenty of stations, curves, gradients and speed changes...and one heck of a long drive

I'm really looking forward to getting this one. I have saved up my reward points dilligently so It wont be costing me a penny. How is that for a company giving something back to the community that supports it? Well done Just Trains!

Dumping the "rewards points" scheme (i.e. a hook to keep you buying rather than wasting points) and just charging the lower post-reward prices would be an even better way of giving something back to the community.
