Power Failure Stops Railworks

Post by Ajay1 »

Hi, This morning I had a brief power failure to my house, This happened in the middle of a Railworks session. Now When I start RW and Press Refresh on the the Package Manager , It starts refreshing the addons then I get an error message window stating the following " Unhandled exception error has occurred in your application. Input String was not correct" Opening this reveals the following :

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Is there a way to fix this? as I cannot now get Railworks to go any further.

Thanks in advance

Hi

You probably have some corrupted files as a result of the untimely power cut - try verifying the game cache.

Hi Ash,
Have just done a verify Cache file and Steam replaced a large number of files which it said was corrupt. Tried restarting RW and still have the same problem, Any other suggestions?

Hi,
I had a similar problem when a graphics card crashed. After verifying the games cache and re-installing a backup it still would not start. I found that the registery was corrupted as other games also would not run, so I had to replace with a back up registery and all was well. A bit drastic I know, but it worked for me.

Regards.

Will try a Registry Fix to see if that helps and then another verify cache in case it may have missed something on its first run. Worse comes to worse I will just have to uninstall and format the drive then do a reinstall. A bit drastic but never mind.

Tried a registry fix and ran a second verify cache without success, did a complete uninstall and reformat of the hard drive, and now in the middle of the install of a fresh copy of Railworks. Reading through my enitial post,I am now thinking that I might have to do a repair on the Microsoft.net files as they appear to be mentioned repeatedly in the transscript. Anyone familiar with those?

Despite the advice, verify cache does not always fix problems. There are a couple of times when only a complete uninstall/reinstall fixed it for me. Probably wasn't necessary to format your hard drive though, unless you'd been planning to do it anyway as part of general PC housekeeping.

I wonder if maybe when the power went out there was a bit of a power suge. A power cut shouldn't do any damage to a PC. A power surge on the other hand could.

A fresh Windows install sound like your best course of action.
If only all problems on the big railway could simply be TAB'd past...

Thanks everyone for all your input to my predicament. It was as I thought a problem with the Microsoft.net 4 ,because at the end of the reinstall it repaired the files there and now all is well and I am up and running again. Thanks Erik for the link to the .net fix, I have just read your post this morning after I did the install.

Just found a previous review with the same error codes, but this time it mentions a cause, hmm… interesting.

This problem can be caused by system corruption on your computer. This occurs for various reasons, including but not limited to other applications overwriting of .NET files or corrupted hard disk sectors.

After I applied the fix, I installed the NVidia 295.73 drivers…
I am not receiving any TDR errors anymore ("stopped responding and recovery" message) . Coincidence...? Yes, possible of course

I had no problems installing the framework updates, yet with Microsoft Silverlight and Defender.
The latter is disabled because I use ESS 5 (Eset)
